Springfield, Vermont won the contest.
-
If I'm not mistaken, I see the cloverleafs being removed.

I went to the I Love America celebration last night and I have to say that it is pretty cool when you have 25% of an entire metro area show up to an event.

Make sure you all vote for the Simpsons movie premiere to be in Springfield @ www.usatoday.com/life/movies/simpsons-contest.htm

Hmmm, what your favorite kind of coffee?

I keep hearing how there isn't enough money in Arkansas, yet states without regressive grocery taxes and state income taxes seem to do okay for themselves. If public support is in the form of taxes then no, Arkansas will never have enough public support. For a state with such a low population (low tax revenue) one would think that a state lottery would raise the much needed money for road projects and education. Everyone in the state would support a lottery. A state lottery will require progressive political action from our state government, which is still considered to be backwards compared to the rest of the country.
Lotteries in most states have all turned out to be failed promises. They promise that they will do such and such with the money but when the reports come out they have mismanaged it. We all know that if we ran our businesses like the gov't, we would go bankrupt. I would almost rather see a private company build a highway with billboards and/or some toll system to compensate their costs.

Ha ha ha... curious... what's time when it will be open?
C'mon now children... If we take turns we can all use it.
-
That's what I'm here for.
I also have a dream that just once a community would plan for growth before, not after the fact.
-
City planners don't reserve land for future highways-- they can plan to their hearts content, but that doesn't mean anything without money. Government agencies (like a state DOT) do... and they can only do that when there's money available. There's very, very limited money to do that right now. The only way to get money to do that is for political action and public support. [off soapbox]
Sometimes I tend to think grand. I think it would be ideal but to nail down the logistics would be very difficult. There's nothing worng with dreaming is there?

My work is taking me to NWA alot recently. An obvious upgrade is needed on the expressway system. If city planners act now, they could reserve land for future highways. I think a grid-type of expressway system would work good. Since there is no "central" city a loop would not work well. This design would help to weave in and out of the whole area.
Something like this, what do you think?

I just wanted to comment that it is nice to see so many people that are concerned and involved with the development of their community. Some other cities (St. Louis, KC) havent had posts in months

Yeah it's a dead link Slyder.

100%, yes. I work at News-Leader, don't forgot about that.
What is your job there?

I was at Primrose and National today and I noticed that the preliminary work had begun to widen that intersection and also make National six lanes from Primrose to James River Freeway.
Good job city planners. Have you ever tried to go Southbound on National at around 4 or 5 pm?
-
I don't think it's as much of a matter of city planning as it is a lack of funds. MoDOT, Ozarks Transportation Org, City of Springfield, nor anyone else has enough money to fund half the things that need to be done. This has nothing to do with a lack of will or planning.
It's not that putting a third lane in is an absolute necessity right now, I just hope that they have built the interchange to easily handle a third lane when needed. If they build the interchange with only two lanes in mind, then when they have to add a third lane it will cost more in the long run to have to redo bridges, interchanges, etc.
-
Diamond intersections are lame and back up traffic becuase of all the stoplights, 44/Glenstone should be a single point intersection on the bridge like sunshine/65 is under the bridges.
Diamond interchanges work well if they have multiple turn lanes at the intersection.
That's great! I hope your family happy with new intersection!Of course, they would make it large and wide diamond... easy to say because Glenstone is champion road in Springfield. It would so so so stupid put one lane for exiting highway.
Do you think they will widening to six lanes on I-44 between Glenstone and H65?
If they don't widen it to six lanes then that is some of the worst city planning that I have ever seen.

MoDOT to host open house over Glenstone-Interstate 44 interchange proposal
The project includes:
-
yeah it's coming along nice. I get to pass by it once a week and see the progress.
-
I44 going to 8 lanes is just a proposal. More than likely it will only be 6
-
I agree with MSU bear. I REALLY hope that they are adding a third lane on the I44&65 and 65&60 interchanges. With the rate of growth in the area a third lane will be needed on I44, 65, and 60 in the near future. If MoDot didn't plan for that then they are retarded.

What are everyone's thoughts on a east-west or north-south limited access expressway through Springfield + downtown? It would obviously reduce traffic on the main arteries, but do you think it would be cost effective? Also where could one go without tearing down whole blocks of the city?
