  1. Yeah, but they would probably want a skyscraper, which downtown can't have. Guess we may have some "historical" limitations.

Well, I say the beauty of it is now that it could happen, with the addition of the Savannah River Landing site... I wouldnt count it out now..... ^_^

btw, is the ugly Civic Center part of the "historic district"? wondering because when torn down, what could end up there....

  2. Hey guys, just wondering is the Shell House still empty or did someone come in and occupy the building yet! If its still closed - do yall know what happened... Shell house is a good place here in Savannah,so I was wondering why it didnt work out to well in Statesboro......

btw, hows the new chilis coming along! cant wait to see it open...applebees & ruby tuesday is probably going to take a huge hit... oh yeah whats the updates on the Target out there?

  3. i just had an idea for downtown parking.

yall know that ugly black matallic parking garage just off broughton right?

take that and demolish it and use the space to erect maybe a 10 - 15 story tower. It would be divided into two parts, virtically, parking on one side, and one the other retail for the first 2 - 3 flors and then apartment/ condos on the rest. you would then have not a terribly large footprint for a parking garage, but 10 - 15 stories of it, free parking for the tenants of course. top that off by doing the external facade the same all the way around, hiding all evidence, other than the ground entrance, that there is a parking garage.

what do you guys think? i know i come up with some odd ideas but i just want to see savannah grow to be a better city really.

ill tell ya right now, its not crazy to think like this, because I promise you that developers wont, they want to get right into the heart of downtown savannah and developers will come in and buy an old buidling and rip it down and turn it into the newest hippest spot down there, savannah has the spotlight on it right now, and people and companies will think just like you did, and new ideas are created... I think we're really going to see downtown savannah change into a very interesting place... all this and overlook the new highrise buildings on the other side of the river... its going to be nice i tell ya...

  4. If you are in Tampa, there is of course one(IMAX theater) at MOSI(their museum of science). I've been there before and it's awesome. I can imagine there being another in that metro area(which is pretty big)

there is a Imax on Channelside drive by the St. Pete Forum too

  5. Northside catching on fast... Rincon-Port Wentworth adding much needed growth in the northside of Savannah. On Melaver/Mouchet's website they have finally opened up sites to ColdBrook Station. ColdBrook Station located right off of I-95 and HWY 21 in Port Wentworth, will open up 10 lots from 1.5 acres to 15+ acres. This development is right behind Holiday Inn Express and Quality Inn in Port Wentworth. I hopeing for much needed office space in Port Wentworth... this development is also next to the Waterford Shoppes - housing Food Lion, CVS, Zaxby's, Family Dollar, Great Steak & Potatoe. Also I hear in the works for Port Wentworth is a much needed restaurant on the exit, I hear its a causual dining chain moving along with construction to begin in September!

We already have been seeing steady growth from the southside areas from savannah mall to georgetown to richmond hill, and towards the westside with pooler, but now we are moving north, as the "Northside" moves into more aggressive development.

the term Northside is already being used my Port Wentworth, in there local billboard campaigns on I-95 advertising that they are Savannah's Affordable hotel destination...

It's Good to see the city spreading everywhere... really will be a force in the southeast!

  6. However, teens have to act appropriately, or clubs and any teen oriented businesses will continue to shut down. That mess that often happens at Star Castle and the Mall Boulevard area makes me glad that I no longer go there.

Savboy, did you see the article in the SMN when the owners of starcastle wrote, that they have helped with the issue by hiring off-duty cops inside the building, but they cannot control these kids once they leave starcastle, they went on to say that its parents fault for not being there afterwards to get there kids or just not raising them rite..... ...........

  7. yeh savannah needs more things to do. the younger generation at least is bored. they should have like a teens club or something downtown like hiphuggers but open to teens all the time, and they are in need of a concert hall in savannah too, and maybe and imax theatre.

You read my mind cocateho, I was just thinking about a Imax theatre in Savannah. Im here in Tampa for some training and the place across the street is Imax... its located in the channelside district downtown tampa.... I was thinking maybe a new movie theatre for Savannah with Imax should be in the Downtown area - probably the Savannah River Landing...... thats gets locals down there also and tourists that want to catch a flick while in town.....we really need one, do you know if Hilton Head was one, if not - its a shame someone hasnt thought about bringing one in the area.......

  8. I think Savannah should focus less on commercial development of malls and more on small business within mixed use type developments. I personally hope the Mall fails to suck more businesses into its domain but that is just my opinion. I am seeing a lot of cool advancements from Savannah lately and I am real excited for you guys! Maybe one day Savannah will be as cool as Charleston ;)

yeah, its a few things here and there... not like charleston though ^_^

  9. being that savannah is one of america's prettiest cities, should we not have a picture of the day thread going on? so everybody, c'mon and post some pictures of good ol' S town

i found this on wtoc, bad quality, but cool lighting....kinda sad it doesnt get more of the skyline though : /

  10. i think it looks like a great development, and since it is completly inevitable that that area is going to grow, probably by leaps and bounds withing the next few years, im happy that were getting something like this, somethig with variation, unlike out on wilmington, i hate all thos aparment and condos out there, so monotonous. economically i tink it will help the area as a whole, but it looks to be not too far away from the savannah mall, and it said it would have retail there, so it might help the savannah mall by adding people, or be the stick the reaks the horses back..... i guess it just depends on how much buisness and how well it does. certainly an exciting project though!

Yeah, I was thinking about the impact itll have on that part of Abercorn. Savannah Mall is a great new mall, no way is it outdated id say... and for the area having this 2 story mall will help out alot when these type of developments come into play, I think Savannah Mall will see better days again and alot of stores will relocate to Savannah Mall while Oglethorpe Mall will turn into our version of Lenox in buckhead, adding the much needed Maggianos - Cheesecake restaurants that you know midtown will get, its not the matter of if but when .... I also think, oglethorpe mall will get stores will Saks Fifth and Nordstroms ....... I just see midtown turning into a better place... and Savannah Mall finding intos catch again .... it has to happen.......

As for the mall rite now, I heard a local businessmen is moving his gym into that mall ..... and really hows that going to look .... Im wondering how Savannah Mall is structuring their leases with places like this and the local high quality kellers flea market vendors <_<

  11. wow, very nice, i like the whole mini city layout idea, and the sketches makes it look like it will be a very classy development.

hey cocateho, what do you think of this type of development in the georgetown area?

btw, Im sure the executives at food lion knew about this, thats why they moved back in - ;)

  12. Wow, that looks nice, I've never heard of that development but as the timeline says 3-14-07 so its fairly new and still probably going through the process, but it looks promising and really add more residential to that area.... that area this is going to is referred to as "Georgetown" ... off of King George BLVD.... its interesting as when I went to the GDOT meetings a month ago, they are really eager to start the flyover for the intersection of King George and 204... adding a development like this, and Im sure more to come around it as usual, its much needed ..... but looking at the pictures, this is a very unique development, looks upscale to me with the style and amenties and golf course...... Im interested to know who the developer is... maybe give us a idea of there past developments ....

  13. Drury Inn - Starcadia Cir. (144 Rooms) - Coming Soon

Unknow Hotel - River Place Dr. (88 Rooms) - Coming Soon

Georgia Bob Barbeque - Northside Drive - Coming Soon

**Rumor*** Red Robin, TGIFridays, Jack In The Box - Hartley Stations - Coming Soon

jack in the box??!?!? wow talk about a non-georgian franchise coming in ..... i see all the commericals on tbs seems great, ive traveled out west texas and cali - they seem to like them alot.... well see how that comes to life... wendys hardees burger king shaking?!?! :P

  14. Also, something I read earlier this week in the Savannah Morning News, is that the city is wanting to build a Hurricane Headquaters; so that if the city is down, the leaders can control the city from that location, the proposed location in outside the water treatment plant in Port Wentworth... The facility also has to with stand Catorgy 3 winds..... the Police Headquaters on the Island is replacing its roof with a Metal roof to with stand the same type of winds..... (these are both only used for Hurricane times)

  15. well if most of those people commute to savannah, then i think it will def. be added :)

also im gonna be on the lookout for renderings of this thing, i think we should all do the same vus it sounds like the biggest savannah area project by far!

well after this project and many to come like it, between savannah and hilton head, i think it will be apart of the CSA and the commuting will begind with all the jobs opening up in the area... fun times are ahead forsure... :)

  16. wow, came across this today, suprised the heck outta me:

    Jasper county development

thats what im talking about! high rise is the way too go, look it wasnt that unreal to me, i know savannahs potential and if other towns around us are getting things, that means were going to get bigger and better developments, we are in Savannah, GA .... but yeahh i love the idea of between sav and hh that itll be alot of residential...... itll really link us up.....

  17. yeah theres not a chance that hampton will turn into the holiday inn express... Intercontintial is very picky...they really dont like dealing with exterior properties ....plus i doubt the hotel owner for the holiday inn will allow it to happen, since he has the flag already ..he can do it - but he wont .....

  18. I know.

It's not Holiday Inn, that is being constructed next to Franklin Toyota on Commerce Drive.

There is an existing hampton inn on Fair road. its an older hotel. There is the hotel on south main that is getting a major renovation. I'm not sure what brand it will be when finished, could be sleep inn. Does anyone have the answer for that? I think there was an article in the herald some time ago talking about that renovation project.

  19. The plans are under review by the City, I would expect to hear something official within the next month or so.

The "dirt pushing" is just preparing the site and leveling the ground. In case anyone was wondering what the dug out area next the Garden District Apartments is all about, that is a detention pond/area.
