  1. Looks like things are starting to look good at the Pavilion Shopping Center.

Fort Smith is getting a first for Arkansas, an Ulta Beauty.

The list of stores I can confirm so far are

    Target

    Best Buy

    Lane Bryant

    Ulta

    Bed Bath & Beyond

    Michael's

    Shoe Carnival

    Books-A-Million

    Old Navy

    Belk's

    Cheddar's Casual Cafe

    Chick-fil-a

    Blazin' Burrito

  2. Okay, so far I can confirm a few stores for the Target shopping center.

Lane Bryant, Michael's, Old Navy, Shoe Carnival, and Books-A-Million. Then Hastings in going to be moving up into the old Michael's building across from the mall...

Seem's like resturuant row is lossing more shopping stores to other areas of town.

  3. Anyone know what retailers are going to located next to the Kelly Highway supercenter?

The only restaurant I can confirm is McDonald's.

Seems like the river city is seeing a lot of of developments lately. I know the new VW Dealership is getting closer to being finished off of Zero.

  4. Aldo Shoes

    Banana Republic

    Charlotte Russe

    Express

    Eddie Bauer

    Gap/GapKids

    FYE

    Disney Store

    Talbot's

    Gymboree

    Hounstooth

    Spencers Gifts

    New York and Company

Major top tier stores that are in NWA mall but not in Central. That isn't even mentioning the better food court offerings NWA mall has and just the overall higher class feel to the mall. Central has come a long ways from where it was just a few years ago though.

The Promenade in Rogers is an upscale mall in a league even above NWA mall, and craps on just about everything else in the state.

  5. Not a lot...I just know that it is supposed to be on the south end of the building....other than that not a whole lot has been mentioned to me....that and they are pushing for more national and upscale chains....

  6. You seem to just want to attack me personally but you don't know me or know my circumstances or anything.

EVERYBODY I know who has moved to Ft. Smith from another metro comments about the slow drivers when they first arrive until they get used to it. Slow drivers are probably typical of retirement communities in general, not just Ft. Smith.

About the casino, if the Chamber of Commerce and the council both support it, why have opponents been so successful in getting it blocked?

  7. The people of Ft. Smith would not want such a development here. They have already tried to bring in a Toyota plant, an IBM plant, and countless ameneties and the city and its leaders just said NO. The US Marshall's Museum fits in well with the history and heritage of this town, so that is why it was fought for. There are 2 major reasons such a development would not be welcomed with open arms in Ft. Smith.

#1. While the chamber of commerce is pro-growth, the mayor and city administrators along with a HUGE segment of the population are very anti-growth and don't want to see change of any kind.

#2. It would not be in the best interest of the manufacturing plants already here. Ft. Smith employers pay much lower than employers do in most places, and if new jobs were to come in and offer higher wages, they would be forced to increase their wages to compete.

  8. Your profile says you are from Little Rock. That being said, I can see why you would find Ft. Smith interesting because of its history, although MUCH could be done to improve the downtown "historic" district which is full of boarded up buildings. Furthermore, because you don't live in the Ft. Smith area, I doubt you have a clear grasp on the politics here. Of course, if you are the kind of person who doesn't care about big city amenties, likes the outdoors, likes a slow pace of life, and are VERY religious, you might find Ft. Smith to your liking.
  9. Same thing with an IBM plant, a Magic-springs style theme park, a sports complex, a minor-league baseball stadium, and now the proposed casino-resort. They even try to drive out retal (unless its Wal-Mart of course); why do you think it has taken Target so long to come when it has been proposed for nearly 10 years?

Fort Smith truly is the armpit of America, it is the "town that time forgot", it is the place where dreams and aspirations go to die, and I am counting down my days until my graduation from UAFS so I can get out of this hole and never come back. I am only 22 but i feel like I'm 82 living in this town. Well said panopticon!

  10. Any idea what restaraunts are looking for land on Rogers? The restaraunt situation in Ft. Smith needs to improve drastically and its nice to hear of some possible new developments. And I hope they aren't just more of your low-end run of the mill fast food chains.
  11. So we have a bit going on in fort smith right now

Hooters getting ready to open up...

Supercenter on the North side of town being built and a Target on the South side

    New Condo development

    US Marshal's Museum coming soon

Anyone think of other good things we have going on right now?

  12. I don't know if it is me or what, but everytime I'm in Fort Smith, I feel more like I'm in a city, than I do when I'm in Fayetteville. Maybe it's just we are much more of a urban town :0/

  13. A big reason they haven't been annexed yet is Barling lives under this illusion that it's somehow beneficial economically. Not only would becoming a part of fort smith give Barling a better economic development foot holding, but also infrastructure would be better. Fort Smith just has more money to make for a good quality of life.

  14. i've been a long time lurker and finally decided to register....I was curious if anyone else noticed that google earth has updated their satellite view of Fort Smith...It's about time
