  1. LOL!! Ok. Sure. Fast food places aren't next to each other.

Well since you know it all, give me some close by examples.

Nevermind, if you did know it all we wouldn't be having this discussion. Carry on.

I apologize people, I forgot who I was talking to.

  2. I'll take a wild guess and assume there are also McDonalds, Burger Kings, Popeyes and Taco Bells within those same areas.

Not in the same proximity. You rarely see a KFC, Popeyes, or Scooters right next to each other around here. Only exception is Popeyes and Churchs, but they're owned by the same company and even doesn't happen a lot. With the burger places it's more common, but still not prevelant. I can only think of one or two Taco Bells that are next to other fast food restaurants. I can only think of one BK that is next to McD's.

  3. Good to know a Houstonian takes Forbes magazine as a expert when it comes to how great a university is.

btw, when you googled LSU ranking I guess you overlooked this one:

    http://www.lsu.edu/h...08/usnews.shtml

:whistling: That actually makes Louisiana look bad vs making LSU look good. All the US News rankings prove is that LSU is the only Tier 1 university in the state and then it's ranked 124 at that. That's not to mention that US News rankings sometimes tend to lean more toward endowments and campus life then necessarily academics and graduation rates. There are cities alone with more universities in their corp. limits that rank higher than LSU on the US News list, yet we as a state only have one. Give me a break. Good to know that a Baton Rougean takes LSU's website and US News as an expert when it comes to how great the university is.

Not necessarily a fan of Houston either, but apparently they're doing something right, since they spot #16 on that same list of universities nationally.

  4. This thread has been dead for years, is there no further information on mass transit from the CBD to the BR CBD?

No word on a BR to NO connection. On the other hand, construction is about to begin on the new Loyola streetcar line and plans for a St. Claude/Rampart line with future extensions to Poland have been green lighted. There's also plans for an Elysian Fields line to run from the river to the lake at UNO.

"Austin firm plans LSU area housing development

Breckenridge Group LSU, the Austin firm that bought a 13.5-acre tract at River Road and Brightside Drive, plans to begin construction soon on a 325-bed development. Aspen Heights should open in June 2011, says Greg Henry, CEO of Breckenridge. Aspen Heights will be made up of 2,400-square-foot, two-story townhouses, with multiple bedrooms in each for students. The floor plans allow students to live spread out across their unit, which will possess amenities, like a front porch, not typically found in apartment buildings. This will be the first Aspen Heights development in Louisiana; the company has similar developments in Texas at Baylor University, Texas A&M and University of Texas-San Antonio. There will be about 125 units in Aspen Heights. Ryan Holcomb, project coordinator for the city-parish Planning Department, says Aspen Heights was originally approved for rezoning in 2007, and a revised plan was passed last year."

These remind me a lot of the new HANO "Housing Projects" going up in New Orleans to replace the large brick tenements and towers. Actually, the projects look a lot better than that. ermm.gif

  6. 930 Poydras turned out to be much nicer than I thought it would be.

As for the BioInovation Center, what's up with that? They were driving test pilings a few months ago, but now nothing. The Tulane/LSU Cancer Center is going up nicely, though.

I actually saw a crane on the BioInnovation site the other day lifting beams. The Cancer Center is coming along well. For some reason I didn't expect it to be as tall.

  7. Who the hell is rapper BG? He can't be that famous!

B.G. is 1/4 of the biggest selling rap group to come out of New Orleans, the Hot Boys, along with Lil' Wayne, etc. He's probably the 3rd or 4th most well known rapper out of New Orleans next to Lil' Wayne or Master P. All of that aside, I have no idea why anyone would be that infatuated with Valence and Magnolia. VL is not the most famous block in New Orleans and definitely not America.
