I, too, took lots of pics at St. Patty's Day but they look pretty much like all of yours, so instead, I'm going to post the pics I took on the Horseshoe when I was walking back from the festivities to a friend's apartment.

Thank you! I did not think of that. In fact, the picture was taken in December 2004 when there was little to no cloud cover. But I will definitely keep your hint in mind and I welcome photography tips because one can never stop improving.

...but that's what's so cool about it! The airport at night is far more beautiful than the airport by daylight. Well, the runways are more pretty. There is something about runway lights that makes me so excited. And I doubt I'll get that shot during the day, considering I wouldn't want to pull over on the side of the road during the heavy day traffic, plus doing so that close to the airport post-9/11 makes one look suspect. Maybe one day I'll try, though! Kayakers at Saluda River last year:

Whoa, more politics than my brain likes to process at one time! This should be more like it... This is the beginning of runway 5/end of runway 23 at night at KCAE (Columbia Metropolitan Airport).

Speaking of politicians coming through town, I got some nice black and white photos of Air Force One at Columbia Metro back in 2003(?) when Dubya came to speak at USC's graduation. I even got in minor trouble with the airport police for sneaking around to get those pictures, and I can't find them anywhere! Driving over the dam - sunset at Lake Murray.

Wow, thanks for the info - I'll have to check that out! I knew that you could see the skyline from the top of that hill on Two Notch by Alpine Road, but I didn't know you could venture further out. On second thought, there is a house in Wildewood worth a million dollars and part of that price tag is due to the fact that they have unobstructed views of the skyline.

I'm sorry; I certainly didn't mean to step on your toes, or anyone else's. Personally, I think the rules should be changed because I know that you and I both have photos that we're itching to post and I've seen some great shots by other members in this subforum. But I also don't think it's fair for you to be upset with me because if you look back over my pictures, I have left many mornings free and I often wait until late night (well, after 8-10pm-ish, except for a few instances where I discovered the school computer lab between classes, like today) to post the PM picture out of consideration for you, Firefox, since I see that you post a good bit in the early to mid afternoon. You are the only person who regularly posts here who hasn't really acknowledged my presence, so I've felt from day one that you feel that this is "your" thread (yes, I know you started it, but that's not what I mean) and was afraid I was stepping on your toes when all I really wanted to do was share my personal pictures with other Columbia enthusiasts. But to smooth out any hard feelings, I will not post here for the next couple of days unless there is an opening for a photo and it's almost midnight. Please accept my apology.

Unfortunately, it doesn't give you that falling-off-the-edge-of-the-earth feeling that you got driving over the old road. At least, I think the old road was like that. I only went over it once or twice and it was at nighttime and I was a bit, uh, intoxicated. I wasn't driving; don't worry! But at one spot on the new road, you do get a view of downtown Columbia like this (and sorry for the summer haze):

WIS NewsHawk at the State Fair

I work on South Main and I've noticed some major traffic at times, but I also agree that Pendleton Street handles USC traffic well. But I think with the amount of USC academic buildings mixed with local businesses and residences on South Main, four lanes is sometimes necessary. Just my opinion.

That would be perfect for me, heh. And that's some awesome trivia! Thanks! I was baptized at First Presbyterian but I'm Episcopalian now, so both churches have special meaning to me. I love the cemetery at First Pres and once skipped a day of high school so I could explore it and take pictures. I'm a nerd. Thank you; I'm glad so many people responded well to that picture.

I hope I don't get in trouble since this is technically the third picture of the day, but I posted it in Southern Photos of the Day yesterday and wanted to post it here before you all saw it there. Trinity Cathedral at sunset...sorry for the power lines!

It's most definitely my favorite church (well, probably in this country and definitely in this state). I've only seen prettier cathedrals in Europe...but of course. And don't worry about your Shreveport picture, which I thought was great; there are unavoidable power lines in my Trinity Cathedral picture, too.
