I've heard BB&T is closing its Portal branch too. Man, that would be like Farmers and Merchants closing its Brooklet branch.

Infer what you will, but I saw the owner of Shell House in Matt Hubes (local attorney)office today. What do I infer? He sold it and was closing.

He didn't give a time frame, sorry. When I see him again, I will ask. One other thing...Have yall mentioned yet ANOTHER subdivision going up on 301 North, just north of the bypass. If not, Jennings construction has cleared a pile of land and have a sign up advertising this site coming soon.

I didnt read back to see if this had been mentioned, other than I've heard this or that (I know it was mentioned above but other than that). But, a friend of mine who works at a local appraisal company said that Target is for sure coming and in the location described above.

Thanks I took the time yesterday to read this entire thread. There are a couple of things I can add. The new police department is just that, just for the police. No jail in other words. On a related note, construction has just taken off on the addition to the jail on 301 North. They are adding over 300 beds there for a total over 400. The other thing is the new bank. I was told over the weekend that this may only be a loan institution and not a full service bank for this area. Could be wrong about that but thought I'd share it anyway.
