  1. Construction in cities of evans, grovetown and martinez

    Ronald Reagan Drive in Evans will extend this summer into a proposed multi-use development, but it won't immediately serve as a connector between two busy roads. storyPhotos();

The developers of Marshall Square, a 52-acre planned-unit development between Evans Town Center Boulevard and Industrial Park Drive, intend to build a road bisecting the development. The new road, placed directly across Ronald Reagan Drive where it intersects Evans Town Center Boulevard, will eventually bear Mr. Reagan's name when it meets Industrial Park Drive on the opposite side of Marshall Square, according to county officials.

Columbia County also has plans to expand River Watch and William Few parkways.

The state Transportation Department is buying rights of way to extend River Watch Parkway down Petersburg Road and then to Washington Road across from the intersection at Town Center Boulevard. DOT officials estimate the project will cost about $65 million. The extension will provide an alternative to Washington Road for drivers traveling between Evans and downtown Augusta.

The DOT also plans to extend William Few Parkway to Hardy McManus Road as part of a $23.7 million project.

On the other end of the parkway, where it meets Columbia Road, county officials want to extend it to Chamblin Road near the new Grovetown High School. Officials hope this extension will ease traffic on Chamblin Road once the high school opens

  2. I know the Home Depot in Evans is open but wasnt there supposed to be some more shops including a grocery store and some out parcel restaurants that were going to go into the same development? Anything open there yet?

Also, the apartments noted above, are they a go or did Nimbys shoot this down like they did the upscale apartments that were supposed to go at RiverNorth in N. Augusta?

  3. In any case Evans needs to develop an identity beyond just strip malls and subdivisions..

A true town center model need only to have about a quarter mile radius..

We will have to see if a true town center model emerges in Evans.. hopefully it does.

  4. Evans may be getting a downtown-type street or avenue for the Evans Town Center. They want to widen Town Center Boulevard and place a median in the middle and parallel parking on the side. This will add to the downtown feel since part of the plans for Evans Town Center include the construction of buildings no more than five feet from street.

    Here's an article.

  5. Marshall square is progressing quite nicely. The land has been cleared, and it looks like all the site work is coming to an end. Hopefully, it won't end up like the Village of Riverwatch.

Here is a marketing brochure I found online: http://marshallsquareaugusta.com/pdf/marshallbro.pdf

I went to Aiken yesterday and walked around. My hope is that Marshall Square ends up with the same pedestrian friendly feel of downtown Aiken. I can always dream, right?

  6. I was in Augusta for a little while today and noticed a few things. I was coming in on I-20 from Belair rd. and traffic was stopped due to construction on the 20/520 interchange so I got off on Wheeler rd. I noticed the new T-Mobile Call Center (wasnt too impressed). I guess I shouldnt have hoped for much, (it is just a call center after all). Basically its a big flat one story building with very little flair. Not nearly as nice as the ADP call center built just recently on Stevens Creek Rd. I also noticed while coming down Davis rd. a big new office building going up just down from The Snug. From the steel skeleton looks like 3 stories and from the quick view I got of the rendering, it looks a little bit more modern than what is normally seen in Augusta.

The Home Depot in Evans is coming along very nicely and Canuk was right....They have cleared off ALOT of land in that area for the Marshall Town Sq. Development. That place is going to be huge!

  7. Has alexander rd project to be widen almost done. The village of riverwatch & the new super kroger construction along with present washington, & riverwatch rd with their own sprawl will make this road a mess i hope it is atleast 3 lanes on each side. Now if they can just widen 520 deans bridge to gordon hwy, wrightsboro rd to grovetown, belair rd to jimmie dyess, & windsor spring to hephzibah before more growth happens in these areas making traffic worse.
  8. A 50,000 sq. ft. building for restaurants facing the road? Doesnt 50,000 sq. ft. sound like ALOT of restaurants? Thats cool though, Evans is bursting at the seems and the metro area needed another Home Depot.
  9. Made a quick trip into Evans today after a dentist appt. in Augusta, (and visiting a friend in Grovetown). Noticed a new bank building going up on Washinton rd. near RR parkway. It appears to be a 3 story building BUT the top floor is the height of at least 2 floors and the bottom 2 floors are relatively high as well. Im guessing it has the height of a 4-5 floor building (top of 3rd floor with be a faux floor?) and rises above the surrounding sprawl like a midrise tower.

Also noticed the E. middle school is gone and they are grading the land, (for Home Depot?)

  10. I was in Augusta this past weekend and got a chance to get to the Savannah River Rapids Pavillion and Park off of Stevens Creek Rd. in Columbia County. Ive been there before, probably a decade before, but boy have they added to that place! It was fantastic! you can walk or bike from the Pavillion in Columbia Co., all the way to DT Augusta (9-10 miles) and not realize your in the middle of the city. You have the slow moving Canal on one side and the rocky, fast moving Savannah River on the other. We saw beavers, a fox and numerous birds and lizards...yes they were out in the cold weather we had on Easter!!

It was wonderful and anyone visiting the area it is a must!!

btw, how large, (many lots) is the Rhodes Hill development that borders the ground of Savannah Rapids Pav.?

  11. Canuk...yes thats the shopping center I saw. I really like the one next to it, (Where Patagonia is). It just looks really upscale. This one isnt too shabby either. Evans is really going crazy!
  12. From what I heard, Hank Aaron had to close a bunch of stores and he closed ours. But I think Taylor is buying it, so they're still be plenty of Land Rovers for the yuppies.

And where's that hamburger place supposed to go? It should've been opened by now!!!! I'm getting angry!!!

  13. I noticed that this past weekend coming in on Hwy 28. Also noticed a large new shopping center going up next to the relatively new shopping center (on Washington Rd.) with the Patagonia Grille. I tried to eat there but they closed at 4:00 pm Sunday. Heard it was good though.

Another thing I noticed was that the LandRover place has gone out of business. I thought that looked kind of tacky anyway, taking up all that land for an SUV place.

  14. As for the Evans Town Square, they are looking at several restaurants and businesses but no confirmations...so Home Depot may not be there. Site work is set to begin in April once the demolition is complete.
  15. Whatever happened to these 3 projects? Are they still planned, or are some cancelled? It seems to be taking a long time for these to take off!

    Evans Town Park

Location: North Belair Road near Hereford Farm Road intersection

Profile: 60-acre mixed-use development will feature a 60,000-square-foot office building; bulk of construction to begin this summer.

    Mullins Crossing II:

Location: Just west of the Mullins Crossing shopping center at the intersection of Washington and Owens roads.

Profile: The second phase of the Target- and Kohl's-anchored Mullins Crossing shopping center is expected to be built in the spring.

The only one where I see any progress is:

    Evans Town Square

Location: Corner of North Belair and Washington roads

Profile: The 23-acre site, currently occupied by Evans Middle School, could be redeveloped as a retail center as soon as late 2006 or early 2007. (rumored to be Home Depot. Blah!)

  16. There's threads on this, but the easiest way to display a photo is:

    1) Set up an account at a free image-hosting site. imageshack.us and photobucket are 2 common ones.

    2) Upload photos to that image-hosting site. The site will generate a url for your photo.

    3) When composing a response on urbanplanet, include the url of your photo in the format shown below.

    		   [img=http://www.urlofyourphoto/photo.jpg]

All you're really doing is putting the tags around your photo url.
