  1. Great news indeed.  I just told a friend that my next destination is Nashville, TN.  I flew United to Charlotte (destined for Key West) to a full flight a few weeks ago.  Though, not very busy, the RIC experience was a pleasure compared to the others.  It is very clean and easy to move around.

    Great... here we go again...

And folks wonder why those of us who have seen this city repeatedly fumble away things over the last however many decades are VERY skeptical (and critical) when there is ANY city involvement in major redevelopment projects. Another one of our RVA/UP "Rules of Thumb" should be - "the city's sh**ty track record when it comes to involvement in redevelopment projects always comes back to bite us."

I haven't yet read the article (am planning to) - is there any indication as to WHY things have been reduced to a standstill?

I swear I've witnessed Richmond a new baseball for yeeeeears before Charlotte, W-S, and Greensboro hatch the idea, develop a plan,  construct, and open.  They've now been open for years and we are still scratching our heads.  We need those leader's ambition.

If you zoom in you can see that it has been hit a few times lol.

It’s defiantly tall enough for a SUV or pickup truck.  I think an Amazon van would get stuck though.

Brent!  These are gorgeous!  Absolutely the most beautiful and promising set of photos I've seen in years!!!!!!

Thought this was right there just west of where Mayo Bridge lands on the north banks of the river (where the Lady Hat Factory is located).  I could be wrong though. The rendering shows that it’s not too far from the Riverfront Plaza twin towers.

Also the project I'm most eager to begin....

I wish we could get something engaging the river other than just parks, and I say this as someone who uses the James River Park System very regularly.  A landlocked city should not be primarily parkland and we should be focusing on getting some life on the river for everyone, especially after failing with Echo Harbor.  Boathouse and Island Shrimp Company should not be the only river-adjacent eateries in a city with such a prominent gem.  We can extend the parks into the counties where dense development is not as necessary for urban life.

I walked the canal with a friend from NC yesterday and we both imagined the canal area becoming the site of this.

Casa del Barco recently renovated their outdoor seating and it looks amazing.

We envisioned the power plant with similar restaurants and shops as well as the plaza around Riverside on The James.

We envisioned the Lady Hat Byrd building being sold by Carmax and reopening the canal to restaurants and shops.  There is a coffee and wine spot in the Vistas and an adjacent spot is being upfitted (hopefully for a restaurant) at the moment.

The spaces filling the old First Union building would add more space as would the soon-to-be vacant La Diff store.

There is so much potential to make the canal more of a destination.

I hope the three towers will help jumpstart this.

  6. Any word on whether or not the Dollar Store on Broad near VCU is set to reopen?

I see the other retail that was set ablaze has reopened.  I’m wondering will The Dollar Tree reopen in The Opus?

Hey everyone, I've been following the RVA sub-forum for a while.  I am glad Monroe Ward is getting some development, personally I think this is one of the best parts of Richmond - location wise, and the next "boom" in the city. So many empty surface parking lots that are dying to be rezoned and developed. I hope to see more projects in the area soon!

    Welcome!

No worries!  At least I got some honest feedback!  LOL!  Yeah, this is totally my product and I appreciate any help you can provide to make it work so that the months show up.

Edit:  Updated line graph thanks to @ancientcarpenter for working out the kinks:

The pandemic effect is still fascinating to me.  I’m glad that we are bouncing back.  Thanks for this.

  9. I love this for South Park Mall.

Id love for Willow Lawn to make the same move given the proximity to the Pulse.

The attached image shows a perfect place for some good mixed use directly across from the station.

People talking about CapOne moving downtown... such a shame that West Creek campus was built when it was.  If they were building today it would almost definitely go downtown, both CapOne and CarMax. CarMax has already located a big chunk of employees over by Sauer Center because that's where Millennials and GenZ want to live and work, in the city, not way out in Goochland.  Had an opportunity for Altria to possibly move downtown too but they opted to expand their existing HQ.   What could have been.

Unfortunately I don't see another big company coming in and building a major office space like this again any time soon. What I do see is some residential density and height.  Those 3 whole blocks of surface lot next to each other in Monroe Ward between 3rd and 5th and the former Dominion site begging for big downtown residential towers.

Like all of you, I’m so excited by this news.

If Cap One moved downtown, I’d switch banks!!!!

So I just checked the digital "print" edition of the RTD - and they went to press with a huge, top of the fold, six-column banner headline lead story about the CoStar building with the really sweet rendering photo. They devoted quite a goodly number of column inches on the front page - and on page A-4. "Richmond's tallest skyscraper"

On A-4 - they are still reporting that the building being 510 feet tall, ranking as the tallest in the city.

If they -- or someone from CoStar -- or someone from either the city of state government got that figure wrong, there's gonna be a LOT of egg to be cleaned off more than a few faces. This figure is now WIDELY published - and what an embarrassment it would be to either the RTD, CoStar, or the government officials if this figure was wrong and a correction had to be published.

    Love it.

I found this news out while in an Uber on the East side of town (picture that skyline of downtown which looks very different with the new VCU Health construction).

Im excited but I wish it were a 30-40 story tower that could be seen despite whichever side of town we are in…

Virginia cities are far too conservative!!!

    Still, I’m pleased!
