Does anyone know absolutly anything about the airport's expansion. I know there are plans for terminal renovation and i've heard they are adding another concourse. When is it set to start? And can the airport attract more flights and a few international flights. I wonder if there are any documents or renderings?

Two hotels near the airport recently completed renovations. The Holiday Inn Airport has just finished a $6 million investment, including a new restaurant and fitness center, redesigned rooms, lighting and lobby space.Also the nearby Best Western Birmingham Airport Hotel has spent 6.5 million in renovations since 2004. The BJCC is less than 10 minuets away so that's another 400 good hotel rooms for the BJCC. And we all know they need more hotel rooms down there, not only around the BJCC but also at the airport.

The current BJCC Arena seats 19,000.

Sure, a new 20,000 seat arena or even a nice upgrade to the current BJCC Arena. Add some luxury suites and a new facade, I'd be great. Then we could invest the dome money in a new convention hall next to the entertainment district.

Does anyone know anything about the terminal renovation? Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't Birmingham in desperate need of a larger and more modern terminal. Also, what are the chances of any kind of non-stop international flights out of Birmingham?

I agree on the convention hall idea. Look at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta, those convention halls have been there since 1976. They just had convention space until 1992 when they built the Georgia Dome and have since added another convention hall. If the BJCC can consistently hold successful conventions, then maybe the county and city will think the BJCC deserves an arena or dome. Also, since the Social Security Administration building will be vacant, the BJCC could buy it and turn it into a convention hall with a hotel in the upper floors of the tower, Anybody think of other expansion ideas BESIDES A DOME OR ARENA?
