Wild Wing Cafe had closed in downtown Spartanburg.

Hate to see an empty building, but not a bad thing really.  They had gone downhill so much.  Hopefully something great can go in there pretty quick, because it is a great building.

  2. Thanks for the pics!  I’ve been so confused by this.  I first thought it was just prep work for the Fairfield, but I think you’re right.  It even looks like there is going to be a handicap lift beside the stairs.  Can’t wait to see what it turns out to be…..

The hotel parcel has finally appeared on GIS (originally it was half City parcel, half BF Dev / MB parcel).  It looks like the City sold its portion to BF for $10, then BF sold the combined parcel to DT Spart Lodging LLC for $1.15M.  This was back in October, so I'm not sure why it took so long for the new parcel to show up.  But anyway, seems like another positive step toward construction.

I'm also hoping BF will use the sale proceeds toward renovation of the Carolina Theatre...

Good to see.  I was all excited to see utility work today going on the other day and then it stopped.  Hopefully, it was just preliminary work….

According to this Herald-Journal article, groundbreaking is now scheduled for late Q1 or early Q2.  That's a decent delay from the original plan, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was partially caused by the utility relocation that's necessary before construction can begin.  Duke Energy is notoriously slow with that sort of thing...

I actually saw a Duke Energy SUV on the site yesterday with some engineer looking guys walking around the poles.   Hope that's a positive step for them to get start moving utilities.  Fingers crossed....

  5. Looks like the church approved this today.  It is a 34 million project.  They will start on the gym first so they can tear the old one down for the education building.  Construction could start in late July.  Said they are working with the city on a few design issues mainly the green & parking space at the corner of Main and Converse.

  6. I like it closed but wouldn’t mind a compromise.  If you are headed West crossing Church street you might could make those angled spots on the right handicap spaces, use all the other spaces on the left as dining. That way, you could open up the road to traffic, provide handicap access and expand the dining areas all the way down the square.  Just a thought….

This $12M made it into the final state budget.  I thought it was for Morgan Square improvements, but I've heard from a reliable source that it will support an office building and small business incubator on West Main and a new parking garage.  Possibly redevelopment of the Herald-Journal parcel and/or the Magnolia Financial parcel on Broad.  I hope we'll get more info about this soon.  Sounds very interesting.

Looks like the $12M got vetoed……
