  1. Sounds like it is back on for Friday. Are you going RT?
  2. It sounds like the demonstration will be rescheduled for Thursday or friday dur to weather.
  3. I just picked mine up too, but I haven't visited the section yet. It looks like it is right outside of city limits not too far from Newton park. I can't wait to go check it out. By the way, did everyone see that the City Council officially adopted the Trails and Greenways Master Plan last week? Read a little more here: http://bikegreenville.blogspot.com/2008/02...-good-news.html
  4. Gsupstate, as I suspected, the answer is no to your qeustion about marking on the greenway. They want to minimize sign clutter on the trail so that people can enjoy the natural surroundings. Donors will get a plaque as mentioned and will also be recogonized at special events.
  5. I don't think so, but I'll have to ask Ty about that.
  6. Buy your own section of a Greenville County Greenway trail. This is an interesting idea for raising funds for the greenway system. You can read more here: http://bikegreenville.blogspot.com/2007/12...lle-county.html
  7. The Greenville News ran an article about the Greenway plan this morning: http://www.greenvilleonline.com/apps/pbcs....D=2007710090352
  8. You can now see the City's Trails and Greenway Master Plan on their website: http://www.greatergreenville.com/city_serv...sMasterPlan.asp and you can read a bit more about it on Bike Greenville: http://bikegreenville.blogspot.com/2007/10...aster-plan.html
  9. I was the other UP person there and I recognized Patrick from his avatar. Hopefully some other UP people can get involved in the smaller focus groups to provide input for this plan going forward.
  10. Greenville News has an article today about the new bike racks http://www.greenvilleonline.com/apps/pbcs....D=2007708230321
  11. GTA is installing bike racks on their entire fleet of buses. There will be a press conference on Wednesday at 10am to demonstrate the new racks. I think this will be good for the transit system and for the city. Read more here: http://bikegreenville.blogspot.com/2007/08...-follow-up.html
  12. The article is refering to the bridge over the Reedy at River street. The proposed tunnel would conncet the existing Riverplace walkway with the greenway trail that currently starts at Linky Stone Park. The City has an official presss release about the new RiverWalk section of trail on the website: http://www.greatergreenville.com/city_gove...7/Riverwalk.pdf
  13. I know a few people who run the trails at Paris Mtn State Park, which is about 10 minutes north of town (http://www.southcarolinaparks.com/common/maps/parksmap/MapParisMountain.pdf) The existing Greenway trail starting from Linky Stone park downtown has a partial rubberized surface, which I believe is made from recycled tires. The majority of the trail width is paved, but about a 4 foot wide section is made from the rubber chips specifically for runners.
  14. Just a reminder. The Swamp Rabbit Press conference will be tommorow. "Greenville Forward wants to invite all of you to the press conference and celebration annoucing the Swamp Rabbit Tram Trail, 10am on Tuesday, June 26 on the trail in Travelers Rest. Beverages and refreshments will be served as we celebrate a significant trail milestone. RSVP to [email protected] or call 233-8443."
  15. Another really great shot RT. Very nice.
  16. Thanks RT. I didn't get up until after 6 though. I was in the park by 6:30 and had time to get in a few long exposure shots before the sun came up. I just got a new camera, so I am playing around and learning how to use it. I'll post the rest of my shots to the Greenville group on flickr when I get home. Here is one more for now. Spartan, thanks for the welcome back.
  17. Wow, it has been a while since I have posted anything here at UP. I took a few pictures in Falls Park this morning and wanted to share one of them.
  18. There is an interesting article about urban development in Chattanooga in the November issue of Metropolis. Check it out: http://www.metropolismag.com/cda/story.php?artid=1588
  19. Yes, I am a rider, but I won't be walking in the parade. I will be downtown to watch with my 3 kids, so I won't have a hand free to carry a front wheel I'll see if I can spot you. I guess we'll have to wait to see who the special guest is.
  20. Great photo NYTransplant. Everyone remember to show up for the parade this evening at 6:00.
  21. Thanks csedwards, I will definitely check it out the book you mentioned. You are right; comparing Greenville to any old European city is a bit of a stretch. My point was really just that any architecture that completely ignores its surroundings does have a negative effect on the environment it is placed in. I agree that US downtowns serve a different purpose than historic European city centers. At the same time, I think that the recent trend toward live, work, shop type communities is a reaction to our strictly segmented
  22. I agree with this. Greenville has over 7000 public parking spaces downtown. That seems like a lot for a city this size to me.
  23. I agree 100% with this statement. Greenville is very vibrant town on the street level where life happens. Individual buildings are just parts of the whole that make up great public spaces, and we have some great low-rise buildings currently in development. My favorite cities throughout the world all have a high density, yet low-rise, core that facilitates interaction between citizens in the public spaces between buildings. Since this topic was discussed for a short time on the high-rise thread, I will refrain from repeating ideas that I have already posted. I will say again that I don't believe Greenville needs very tall buildings to accommodate its future growth.
  24. The Hubbell building will be very visible from the interstate. That exposure is the main reason it is located there and the reason that the design is oriented the way it is. I would not worry; It will be an impressive structure viewed from 85.
