  1. Nice pics, I've liked watching the progress of the student union over time because I pass right through it anyway when I park in the Union Deck (though I really wish they made that parking deck bigger it's really a mess sometimes). I also can't wait to be able to cut right through there to get to lot 25 near the police station when I'm walking because it would save alot of time. Also who did that sculpture in the other 2 shots it's pretty interesting.

  2. One thing I have to say as a visitor to Charlotte is the lack of transportation to the mall from uptown. You can't even take the bus up there because of the ridiculous schedule, you have to get there at 5am or something ridiculous on the Concord X route. And taxis? Forget it, they won't go into Cabarras County from Mecklenburg, I don't really understand it but something about crossing county lines etc someone explained once.

If it was easier to get to from uptown it might be better, if ever I want to go I have to rent a car or get a friend to drive me there.

This is why they need to finish the Lynx Blue Line NE extension and bring it to the mall.

  3. KB Toys & Club Libby Lu (which are both next to each other) are both closing.....that's going to be an eyesore and hard to replace afterwards. I hope they find tenants fast.....meanwhile Foot Locker opens <_<

Yeah I saw that like all KB Toys just about are closing, which is a shame, as a kid I liked going to those stores. I blame walmart <_<

  4. Well the clock is ticking down and it does not look like TWC and Viacom are going to make a deal on carriage fees. MTV is not about music anymore but I do enjoy some of their programming like "True Life" and "Made". What I will really miss is VH1's "Best Week Ever" series. They are hilarious. And no more TV Land this sucks  Not a fun way to start 09. I saw the emergency crawl on MTV and tried to call in to protest but it's been jammed all day. Not that I think it will make much of a difference.

In my opinion though Viacom seems to be the one's being the ones at more fault here because they seem to be asking for a really steep increase in fees to carry their stuff.

  5. Did anybody make it to the rally? I really wish I could have gone but they couldn't have chosen a worse day to host the rally. We had cold, wet weather on a night that classes were in session. I myself was still in class until right when the rally let out. I understand the timing to get it in before the Chancellor's address. However, it would have been better placed Sunday evening when fewer people would have been in class or working (college students and retail/restaurants in UC are strongly correlated around this area.)

Another interesting note, there was an outdoor boxing even on the front lawn of campus on Monday night. It was really cool to see a boxing ring lit up in front of campus. I hope that was a sign of more activities to come on campus this year. It drew a pretty large crowd.

Boxing? Wow. Didn't know about this.. but that is certainly unique. Hopefully with what seems like an insane new load of people around as opposed to last year and higher gas prices more and more people won't leave every weekend.

  6. I'm not sure that this is "news" anymore as it was originally announced in December, but I don't see it mentioned on here: Concord Mills Mall will be getting two IMAX theaters at AMC. I'm not sure if they will be replacing existing theaters or if they will be expanding the building to build new ones. According to an employee at the mall (who I forgot to ask about the location of the theaters,) the first movie playing on the new screens will be the Harry Potter movie in November. It's too bad they weren't opened in time for Dark Knight.

Oh that is neat, finally more IMAX instead of just the one at Discovery Place. :shades:
