Last part of 2008......

Sam's Club to under go major renovation.wonder if this is due to the rumored Costco store coming to North Macon.
Probably so because if Costco came to the Market it would surely give Sam's a run for the money.......I hope Costco does comes and Both Costco and Sams do well together in the Macon Market.

I spoke to my father yesterday and he told me the he spoke wth some city leaders (who he opted not to name). He confirmed that there are workings "behind the scenes" for Dave and Busters to locate here in Macon.

I am curious about something. I've noticed recently that there has been numerous store openings in Macon...as I'm sure there are in almost every city above 10,000 in Georgia. Are there any new actual developments going on in Macon? A city of Macon's size will definitely have some type of construction or urban development. The downtown area of Macon is just ripe for intown living. What is the development climate like in the greater Macon area?
I have seen a few substantial developments in Augusta and some in the Columbus metro. I see countless retail and restaurant openings posted but no real development. I'm sure there are some municipal improvements going on as well in Macon. Are there any new updates in the public transportation authority in greater Macon? I'm sure with the increase in gas prices, ridership has to be up. What happened to the I-75/I-16 interchange realignment?
For those of us who do not live in the greater Macon area, it would be nice to see some things that are unique to the Macon area. Augusta is getting a new riverfront stadium in their downtown area. That should jump start a bunch of development in their urban environment. Columbus has been retrofitting their downtown area with urban housing options. This should make their urban experience that much better. Even Cartersville is getting a new museum.
I'm just inquiring because while store openings and new restaurants are nice, I would like to know what is going on to make Macon's urban experience improved.

I will try to adress your questions,Capicorn centre is propably the most unique development downtown it will include the adaptive resue of a four story building into a 85 room hotel, restore the Capicorn Records into a recording studio and restaurant, build a mixed-use five story building with about 200+loft condos on the upper floors with commercial space on the ground floor and 30 townhomes.A new convention center Marriott is under construction downtown.there are about 100 loft conversions under construction and 43 ground up construction lofts downtown.there is one old building being converted to lofts, but they are adding a fourth floor with upscale condos.riverwalk kepts growing and is one of the big draws downtown. What I find interesting is downtown apts. stay about 97% full. a I.T.company has bought the old Park hotel and turning it into a office with a art gallery on the first floor.hope this is what you where looking for.from about march to nov. there is city market on the green on sat.mornings, wich helps bring people downtown on which usally empty on weekend days.

Plans are to demolish the existing buildings - one of which has been used for commercial purposes - and build a new 19,200-square-foot building with retail on the first floor and offices on the second floor. The site would be accessed from Ingleside and Rogers avenues.

Do you know if this is going to be an AT&T Experience Store, or just typical outlet?
Well according to the Bibb county planning & zoning website the permit was for a new stand along At&t store like the new one verizon just completed next to Sutton acura....

It's on Sheraton drive about two miles from the shoppes, down past Groome. The shopping center next to the dealership is Riverside Corners,I think AT&T is going in there.

MAYOR REICHERT ANNOUNCES PLAN TO DOUBLE MACON IN SIZE:
http://www.macon.com/198/story/265908.html
After 40 years a Mayor w/balls.
I'm happy to see these plans it look like macon has a strong mayor and city committe now which are working to gether to build a bigger and better macon....the mayor said that he has a vision to see macon become larger than bibb county" he has big plans for this cityand i think that if they continue to work together like they are now Macon will start to see a lot of growth happen in the larger cities, like more highrises, jobs and entertainment....

There's a very large steel-framed office building under construction on Bass and Bowman. Not sure how many stories its going to be but it stands at five now and looks like its going taller. I will get more info.
Any update on the information on this office building under construction......

I was confining my guesstimations to 2010 census. And to counties that could meet the SMA qualifications for inclusion. Are you suggesting that Macon SMA (not CSA or other entity) could be 500,000 in 2010?

This a great site to provide factual information that Macon & Warner Robins interact more than enough to be one Metro.....

I'm a little bit curious about Macon's population. Since the 1990's the auctual city of Macon has been declining in population, but throughout the forums it indicates that people are leaving the city and moving to the county. Primarily which counties around Macon are they migrating to is it just Bibb or what and how many of those counties are contained in Macons MSA as of now? That could be a big idea as to which counties are going to be added to Macons MSA.
Most of the pop is moving out into Bibb, Crawford and Houston counties..Which Macon is now planning to expand the city limits 360 degrees around the entire city to try to gain pop back which has move to the county and to incorporate all the new huge commercial & residential developments out the city......over 65% of Bibb is developed and if Macon expands they might as well just incorporate the entire county.......Which i see happen in the very near future...... Which will bring Macon city pop to about 160,000....
