An official Lego store in Greenville would be nice. County Square would be a good option, if not somewhere on Main Street.

2024
in Greenville
Greetings everyone.
Looking at the raw population growth data (very strong, even explosive), Greenville (UA, MSA, & CSA) will certainly continue to see exciting new development announcements, and the region will face increasing growth pains. Leaders in all sectors need to be prepared and aware that the area is growing and will continue to change -- for better and/or worse.
Regarding the higher cost of construction, hopefully this article proves true:
“But I think we’re approaching a tipping point where cost increases will plateau,” Jacobs says. “Supply chain issues have largely been worked out and GCs and subcontractors are looking for work which will affect estimating in a positive direction going forward.”

Enjoy this performance of Gustav Mahler's Symphony No. 2 as performed by the Greenville Symphony Orchestra in Peace Concert Hall, April, 2023. This was our beloved Maestro Edvard Tchivhel's final season as Music Director (he will assume an emeritus role). The orchestra's growth and achievement under his leadership were nothing less than spectacular. Greenville has been truly blessed by his top-notch efforts.

'The Greenville News' is absolutely HORRIBLE in my opinion. Sadly very poor quality overall. Add this to their lack of accurate community reflection... They misspelled the well-known name "Rick Erwin" multiple times in a piece about his latest local restaurant. I will NOT support this organization financially until they clean up and grow up. They are an embarrassment.

What is under construction next to the Publix near Furman University? It appears to be large enough for another grocery store, but Publix is already in the same shopping center.

How can anyone be certain this development proposal is "dead" only two months after the posted news articles mentioned several infrastructural and design details were still being worked on?

I am excited to support Pizzeria Fiamma when they open for business in the West End.

Sad to see the grain building(s) gone. Especially after seeing the successful revitalization of The Silos in Easley. They created The Grainyard, which would have been a nice idea in this part of Spartanburg as well (it is a railroad-themed version of Gather GVL.

This was a conceptual sketch shared over a year ago, but I also remember seeing a sketch from the Main Street side and always hoped it would eventually develop as envisioned. The other drawing focused more on the building(s) directly behind the Gunter Theater along Main Street. It was an attractive design with an angled or semi-arching roof, with four or five floors above ground. (Edit: I found a copy of the conceptual sketch mentioned above.)

The glass is always half empty, isn’t it?
Technically, the glass is always FULL...
50% Water
50% Air

Always glad to see more residential and mixed-use infill downtown. This is a reasonably attractive development and will be a nice addition to the West End district. This is a better design than the new United Community Bank headquarters building, in my opinion, and better than the new County Square office building(s) -- at least externally. Understand the different styles and functions, but the new county government office complex looks more suburban than I previously imagined.
...And yes, I would love to see some actual signature highrise towers with at least 20+ floors in Greenville soon. They need to be well-designed, visually attractive, and enhance the urban vitality primarily at ground level, not just the skyline.

The Today Show (3rd Hour) on NBC this morning featured a segment about "last-minute summer getaways" and they included Travelers Rest and Greenville, S.C. A very nice little piece with beautiful video from the city and nearby locations.

The Baton Rouge Area Chamber will visit Greenville in November.
"During the 2022 workshop, Baton Rouge business and community leaders will reflect upon important policy issues facing the region and learn how the destination region addresses similar matters, according to BRAC. Topics to be addressed during the trip include development partnerships, inclusive entrepreneurship, business and education partnerships, talent retention and diversifying industries."

What makes it even more annoying is the fact that the author of the article often is not in charge of writing a title for the publication. They may give it an appropriate title, but a different person, whom may not even work in the Greenville office, has the responsibility of creating a title that they hope will grab the attention of casual readers and induce more clicks online. Is the print version correctly written? I will never know because I am not a customer of this organization.

Another interesting perspective of the new hotel and Camperdown tower. Someone whom has never seen the city would not realize that a winding river with waterfalls, a unique pedestrian suspension bridge overlooking a beautiful urban botanical garden, and a vibrant downtown literally surround this building.

17 hours ago, NewlyUpstate said:This was the GVLToday poll which I referenced in an earlier post (I hope, because I definitely emailed them, but did not receive a response or see any comments in later stories).
They had a very misleading article that read in a very biased way. They showed a picture of an older design, said it was going to be much shorter, and did not explain the source and required intent of the funding required. Honestly, all in all, very poor media work.
GVLToday is great for things like event notifications, guides to festivals and restaurants, but they consistently fall flat on their face when they try to get involved with anything political or complex. I love reading their newsletter daily too, but they really should stay in their lane (I hate that I said that, but in this case its the truth if they can't prove themselves competent) .
City Council voted in favor of the first reading, 5-2. I thought Mayor White gave a great speech.
I dumped gvltoday years ago because they included too much misinformation and irrelevant topics. The idea was good, but poorly executed and lacked quality control. Not worth wasting my time.
Here is another photo from Sunday, which shows how active the children's areas were. An excellent addition to Greenville's recreational amenities.
