I thought onative implied that he was sending some info over here based on the plaza board

Just heard an Interview with Dyer...There will be buissiness under I4 and the parking will go away in the future
-
Let's not forget the impact this SHOULD have on some up in the air projects!
-
I would like to see some renderings as well

They actually just tore that place down a couple months ago.
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOooo, dang it I wanted to see that!

But my point again is that if we had an NBA organization that truly knew how to manage a team and it's affairs, this wouldn't have happened in the first place. But b/c they suck, they are making rash moves and getting rash results and are screwing it up for everyone else.
I'm a Gator and I'm biased. But I know for a fact there's no way they would have given Donovan the power he needed to make the right personnel changes and the end result would be simply, the Magic would still stink and Donovan would get fired, return to the NCAA, and probably coach at another rival school. If the Magic were a reputable organization, I wouldn't be so harsh, but b/c they are who they are, I'm glad Billy backed out of the deal. THe only downside is that the Magic are my (our) NBA team.
So...you are not explaining why they "suck" you are using it as an explanation for your comment. Then informing us of your assumption of a future that will never be realized (also based that the Magic "suck")
THANK you for your quality post!
(You didn't need to explicitly state that your "a Gator and [your] biased" we already could interpret that)

I wouldn't be surprised if they extend I drive/Oakridge over i-4 not only for usage but then they can scrap the Kirkman bridge and just rebuild in the exact same space (like Saxon in Deltona, European technique) while having a formidable detour

You know I had this great idea...
Never Widen I-4, make it illegal to do so.
408 for that matter. Sounds crazy but the second it passed every person could stop futilely thinking/assuming that in time it will meet our needs. They will have to move on to more urban, environmental, modern methods of transportation. Mainly Rail yes but everything could be built upon; we could have three times the rail system in the works with an extensive bus system branching from each node. Not to mention we could also look to the east for some of these plans. Plus, and most importantly in my mind it could be design to curb urban sprawl, such consequences of doing nothing to stop it seem unimaginable.

Did anyone notice in the Sentinel a couple of weeks ago that I-4 near Anderson Street was literally identical in the today photo as it was in the 1960's photo? The same lightpoles and guard rails were shown.
Yeah pretty funny (read sad)

Thanks, I appreciate the kudos
Believe it or not, I have some very unique ideas for downtown for future developments that require razing a few areas but sadly to say, since I am not a billionaire developer, it will probably forever remain a fantasy
I absolutely love your idea of an arena complex that could include an arena, minor league ballpark and who knows what else
Look what they did in JAX, back in 2000 voters approved a 1/2 cent sales tax increase and they got a beautiful new arena, a beautiful new minor league stadium for the JAX Suns, a beautiful new public library and massive upgrades/renovations to Alltell stadium just in time for hosting the SuperBowl
All of this is in one cluster in the old JAX shipyards and its awesome
I am incredibly jealous for my friends that still live in JAX
Amazing isn't it, JAX residents vote FOR a sales tax increase for new arenas to party and hang out in yet Orlando residents vote AGAINST a sales tax increase to 12 lane I-4 for about 30 miles
Not to mention the fact Tampa residents voted FOR a sales tax increase for the Bucs to get Raymond James Staidum, and this was BEFORE the team changed logo, BEFORE they got rid of the crappy orange/white uniforms and 2 seasons BEFORE the team started making regular playoff appearances for the 1st time in 20+ years
What the hell is wrong with us?!?!?!?!?!?!
Thats b/c Orlando is transplant so they dont want to spend their money on a City they think they are too good for...which I simply say, "Go Home Then!" Most Orlandians don't deserve the future that forward thinkers like those in this forum are carving out!

It's unfortunate though that the two venues aren't going into areas that could then easily support growth directly near it, I'm not talking like the Citrus bowl where it is near nothing at all, but the PAC will be boxed in by already recently developed parcels (CNL, City Hall, Westin, etc.) and the Orena will likely still be on the opposite side of I-4 as the CBD. Thus neither is going to have developers paying the city incentives to build near them before they're done like Miami.
HOWEVER, I am fully in support of both to the max along with the Citrus Bowl, with the Orena coming first then PAC the Stadium

Why isn't it a good fit?
All of the gambling makes officials uneasy, thats why they dont have any teams, plus there have been scandals with UNLV.
-
yet he makes no mention that 95% of the cities that have built new arenas have not played host to the Super Bowl, political conventions, or a NBA title.
95% of Cities aren't the #2 tourist destination in the country behind a city that has no real pro sports teams and is not a very good fit for real sports leagues (NBA, NFL, MLB,...)
-
I remember in 2001 when they were pushing for the new arena, you saw so many people w/ the "norena" bumper stickers.
I hope to god people have wised up by now and you won't see as much of that garbage.
I hear you there are to many short sighted old people that agree with the Mike Thomas guy from the Sentinal who hates sports. This arena is such a good thing for Orlando.

The arena on I-Drive would do nothing more than to shut the yap of the hoteliers. There has been a landowner from Atlanta who has offered his parcel for a new arena on Universal Blvd. Whether that happens is unknown. With the hoteliers coming out and saying they approve the tax increase and it's use it could show signs of the arena being located downtown.
I'm sure most people including city officials know the falicies of putting the arena on I-Drive, however they also know where their funding is coming from.
Should be interesting to say the least.
I think an arena by the CC would help Orlando tremendously with even larger scale conferences like the DNC/RNC but I've heard Dyer say recently on Sentinel Sports on the radio say that their research shows that would not be good for the team. He didn't sound like it was going down there. Not to mention that I think he wants it in the Centroplex still b/c of his desired tech village in conjunction with UCF near the TD 'house.
