Downtown Upscale Luxury Hotel (Wyndham Greensboro)

  • Description: The downtown Wyndham will be located in the heart of Greensboro's entertainment and restaurant district on South Elm Street across from the International Civil Rights Museum. The hotel will be a part of the existing "Elm Street Center" which has an upscale restaurant and conference space.

    History: The hotel was first proposed in the Summer of 2009 and is being funded with stimulus bonds (American Recovery Reinvestment Act) backed be private investors. Originally the hotel was planned to have 300 room and the first proposed location was several blocks south. The developers have had talks with several luxury chains including Westin, but Wyndham is signing a contract with the developers. While Greensboro has 3 other luxury hotels in other parts of the city (Grandover Resort, Proximity Hotel, O'Henry Hotel), this will the first upscale national chain luxury hotel in the Triad. Wyndham is also the sponsor for Greensboro's PGA golf championship
