Old Fire Station Loft at 39 Adams St.

These pics are from the 2002 Hard Hat Loft Tour. This loft is on the second floor of the old fire station at 39 Adams (corner of Ocean & Adams). These pictures do not do the place justice. Jacksonville magazine should do a spread on this and other lofts downtown. The T-U has done a couple of articles on lofts downtown, but this one was not included.

The fire station was the first one built after the Great Fire in 1901. It's original architectural appearance was erased in a 1944 remodeling.

Does anyone know why the tours have stopped? They drew pretty big crowds.

Does it still have a slide-down pole?  That would be fun!

The pole is gone, but the hole in the floor is still there. It is covered by a wrought iron cover with and a thick plexiglass layer over that.

It really is a cool place. You could see jaws drop as the ticket holders walked in.
