Middle Tennessee Floods

I hope any of you folks in the area are safe and dry. Once I realized how bad the flooding was, I started contacting friends and family to make sure they were okay. I know several that evacuated to other houses and haven't returned home yet. My brother is stuck in Portland, unable to get home in Sumner County because every creek has swollen over all the roads - rural and main highways. It's still incredible to see video of roads and areas that I know so well just absolutely covered in water. I'm fearful that the Cumberland River is the shoe yet to drop.

I hope there's no more rain in the near future to give the water time to drain.

Terrible - So sorry RON-E about you and your neighbors. This past weekend has been awesome - not in a good way. In my 55 years I have never seen it rain so much in such a short time. Fortunatly all I had was water running thru my yard to the drainage ditch. Having lived in a small town outside of Pittsburgh on the Ohio River I know the damage that flooding can do. ron-e, I can barely fathom what you're going through. From the outside looking in, the whole situation seems unreal. I wish you the very best of luck in recovering from this catastrophe.

My prayers are with anyone who is dealing with flood damage or loved ones with flood damage right now.

I am very fortunate to live on some higher ground...but I have never seen so much water in the yard in my life. Our ditches were torrents and new gulleys were formed in our yard. Still, it pails in comparison to what has happened elsewhere in town. I live about a mile from Sevenmile Creek....I drove up Edmondson Pike yesterday and found that the creek was several feet over its banks and occupying flats 200-300 feet wide. The road to Ellington Agricultural Center was a waterfall. Ball fields and houses were 5-8 feet under water.

Still, it was little compared to flooding in Bellevue, Pennington Bend, Old Hickory, West Nashville, and now the East Bank and downtown.

The Harpeth River got me in Bellevue. 8 feet of water surrounded the house, filling the interior walls of my one level ranch with 6 feet of water. The car was lost as well.

MCW - My prayers go out to you and your family. I get overwhelmed every time I see more pic's of this. I also would like to give a shout out to all the volunteers who came out and helped in whatever way they could. Tennessee really is the "VOLUNTEER" state and proved it once again.

Many people in my area are abandoning their houses because the $29,000 that FEMA has offered is not near enough. Some houses need $50,000-$100,000 in repairs so some of my neighbors in Bellevue are letting the banks take the houses back. Some people have offered their house for sale "as is". The real estate market in Bellevue is going to suffer for many years. Developers like Fox Ridge have overbuilt thus there is too much "new" inventory so people cannot sell their 'used' houses and now the floods have made things worse. People are associating Bellevue with "flood" and "water" and unfortunately as long as the media keeps this in the news some 7 weeks after, people who want to sell and move to the city cannot do so.

Unfortunately the Bellevue area is now marred and I am going to have a helluva time selling my house which was basically untouched. An area with abandoned houses drops in value exponentially for many years to come.
