This is ridiculous. Nobody is suggesting that a new arena would be the magic bullet and fix Hartford. All anybody is saying is that we cannot attract a new sports franchise without a new arena. We've already proven that a team can be viable in the city...so what the hell is the problem?

EDIT: I forgot we spent $200,000 on these jokers.

Unlike many on here, I usually like alot of what comes from the planners and studies, but this HOWEVER is without a doubt, THE MOST IDIOTIC RECOMMENDATION I have ever seen. Such small minded thinking. A new arena is needed even without a major league team. Without it watch the Big East Womens tournament, NCAA tournaments and other major events disappear from the city. From the article it almost seems if the panel views that as a good thing. IDIOTIC !!

I used to really respect the Urban Land Institute, but this is just an awful job. The Hartford Civic Center was out of date when the Whalers played there 11 years ago, but now it's worth it to put more money into it? Have they thought of the price tag just to bring it up to date? Also, when is it a smart move to tell a city to pack it in and become smaller? That's nonsense. As beerbeer said, this is small minded thinking, which Hartford has been absolutely plagued with since Constitution Plaza was downgraded. Unreal. Give me $200k and you'll see a REAL study done.
