City pursuing Sunday alcohol sales

Anderson Independent-Mail: A petition was introduced at a recent city council meeting to bring up an ordinance to allow a referendum in April 2008 in favor of Sunday alcohol sales within the city limits.

One wonders if a limited number of restaurants is currently attributed to the current lack of alcoholic bevereages served Sundays. If realized, can we see a positive increase in dining options downtown, and additional money into the local market?

I'm pleased to hear this. While I am not one who drinks very often nor a resident of Anderson, I could see this benefitting the city in a few ways. Increased permit sales, tax revenue, and some new businesses may choose to move to the city instead of the county.

Eactly. Spartanburg accomplished the same thing, and we've seen a spike in restaurants looking to locate in Spartanburg that had previously looked us over. Anderson would no doubt be in the same boat. It benefits downtown, the burbs, and people in general (as we've discussed in other threads).
