Stax Relaunch

Recommended Posts

"We think it would be wonderful for Memphis, not just from a music standpoint, but for economic development," said Phil Trenary, board chairman of the Memphis Music Foundation.

During the Stax heyday, Memphis was the world's fourth-largest recording center, and music was the city's third-largest industry.

I think this could be huge for the future success of Memphis. Hopefully, another heyday is in the works. Look at the music scene in Atlanta.

It'll take Memphis venturing into different music scenes and excelling in each of them -- hip hop, rock, r&b, and fusing of different types. I think we can do it, and I think tapping into the independent music industry will be the key, as long as everyone ignores the boundaries.
