It seems as if UNC and Duke battle at everything including facilities construction. If UNC builds a new physical science complex then Duke does, if Duke builds a new genetics building then UNC does, etc.

UNC Major Science/Medical Facilities Projects

1. Physical Sciences Complex-$250 million

2. Genetic Medicine Building-$120 million 340,000 sq. ft.

3. Bell Tower Complex (new genome sciences complex)-$100 million

4. NC Cancer Hospital-$200 million

Duke Major Science/Medical Facilities Projects

1. CIEMAS (Engineering/Genome Science Building-340,000 sq. ft.)

2. MSRB II-165,000 sq. ft.

3. French Physical Science Center-285,000 sq. ft.

4. Herman Eye Center

5. Hock Plaza-Phase I complete, phase II underway

Both schools are currently planning extensive additions to their hospitals and Duke plans additional reserach building along Erwin Rd. UNC plans to develop the former married family housing into all research buildings (20-30 more buildings eventually). Will post pictures in the future.
