Tiger Stadium Plan

Here's the gist of it:

It starts with Tiger Stadium being knocked down. I at first had trouble coming to terms with this, as I have countless fond memories of the magical stadium. But then I realized that all of the proposed plans are completely bogus, and that this new plan would keep the memories. In the empty lot, the city would build a park. But not just any park. This park would have several baseball or softball fields that could be used by city leagues or youth groups. Some of the Tiger Stadium bleachers would be preserved for anybody who comes to watch one of these games.

If you walk around parts of downtown Ann Arbor (mostly on main st. and state st.), you'll notice a variety of large glass signs in front of historical areas. The signs give information about those places. This would be what the new park would have, only each sign gave different information regarding areas of tiger stadium. There would also maybe be statues and other things that allow this historic site to be preserved.

Now keep in mind that this idea is completely hypothetical. I would love to see Tiger Stadium preserved as much as anybody, but the truth is that it simply could not be converted into anything (regardless of what wal mart says  ). This way, we have something that would be useful to the community, and would allow people to remember the place where the Tigers had their last winning season.

Yeah, LMich, I think that is his hypothetical plan.

I would still prefer to see the street grid restored and new infill built. Corktown has been trying to get rid of Tiger Stadium for decades now, lol. The worst case scenario would be the new justice complex being built on the site. However, I have heard it's most likely going where the old permanent Greektown Casino site is. Keeping my fingers crossed....

So since they're vacating the old police headquarters. Correct me if im wrong on that. Are they going to have a plan for the building before they move out. THEY BETTER! With alot of renovating it could be turned into an office or a residential building.

Oh sorry, this is actually my brothers idea. He presented a paper on rust belt cities in one of his

classes at U of M. He speant a lot of time in Detroit for it and when he was wandering around corktown,

he came up with this idea.

While a is park nice I don't think that is maxmizing the use the site a big box retailer still would better. This one few single sites large enough near downtown and would be chance to build the first urban big box store in the city. Target more than any company seems skillful at adapting their stores to an urban enviorment
