Bill for road construction in Arkansas

I don't remember what the name of this bill was but, someone told me that it failed to pass at the polls. That's a shame because now road projects will take much longer to materialize.

Yeah I mentioned this before but couldn't get anyone interested in talking about it. I wasn't real surprised it didn't pass but I was surprised that there wasn't more support for it in northwest Arkansas. I think a lot of people didn't like the idea that the highway commision could use that much money on bonds for road projects without the public's say. I don't know if this came down to people not wanting to have that much money possibly spent in an area of the state they didn't live or what. Of course there's still a number of people who believe in the pay as you go method.

Also an education bill failed to pass as well. I thought that was unusual because I thought for sure that would pass.

Yeah that was more of a surprise. Some people sais he shouldn't have tried to tie it along with the highway bill.

I think most people around the state feel like the interstate resurfacing was expensive enough, for now. One of our problems is that only a couple of areas of the state really need extensive road improvement. I'm surprised LR and NWA didn't rally support, though, especially the latter.

Ft Smith passed a local tax a few yrs ago to upgrade its roads and I'm told it has really improved things there.

We do need to focus more on education but I'm not ready to ignore the roads either. But I do think everyone was more surprised the education didn't pass more than the road construction bill. I've heard a number of people blaming Huckabee for tying both bills together. That the education bill would have been better off without the road construction bill. I see Johnny just ready to stir up trouble now that he's out of school. Johnny are you hanging out with the bad kids at school? Just kidding you Johnny, it more like the old days with you back around more. I have noticed some of forumers have been rather quiet lately. Not sure if they haven't had much to say or have moved on.

I agree that good roads are important as well as education. In Hope, Arkansas they're trying to turn the University of Arkansas Community College into a four year institution. If it's ever done that would definitelt give our Texas A&M University here some competition. Also Southern University in Magnolia will be doubling the size of its campus. I wish Hwy 82 across southern Arkansas was made into a four lane road. Then travel to El Dorado would be a lot quicker.

I'm not sure Arkansas's education problems can be fixed by throwing money at them. Not saying I don't support better funding but I certainly don't think that's a big reason why we're ranked where we are.
