Yeah... the pictures pretty much sum it up, but it's basically a strip mall that happens to have some atypical stores.. The location is very close to the Augusta National Golf Course... More upscale than the average Augusta strip mall, but not really a "lifestyle center" (IMO) or anything like that...

At one time this was the only Dillards department store to be located in a strip mall....may still be. The shopping center has been around for years and Dillards was originally JB White's.

Does anyone remember the proposals a few years ago for the highrise condominium to be built at National Hills? I think they were going to expand the shopping Center as well. Of course, this never came to fruition.

Interesting, I didnt know this was still going on until I checked the AC just now and there it was. What a coincidence!

I think years ago it was only a 10-12 floor condo. Its good to see they might build a 17 floor one there now. I think the area around the Augusta National needs sprucing up and a development like this would be a definate shot in the arm.

Well here's some background info on National Hills condos. The building proposed will be 17 stories, with each individual unit costing at a start price of $900,000. Supposedly these will be targeted to corporate businesses who want to occupy these rooms during the Tournament, but still that price is a lot and literally non-existant elsewhere in the area for these type of residential types. An historic Summerville mansion can sell for less or slightly more. IMO, maybe this type of developmet can benefit more if it was maybe closer to downtown, but then again it would really make the area a bit more distinct, than other retail strip corridors around town. Also I do understand the concerns that the National Hills neighborhood has and the Augusta National Members, who are weary about accepting such a project in this area. Anyways, let see what happens. The shopping center facelift part looks GREAT though. It really would boost National Hills to more of an "upscae Status" Fountains would also help.

Looks as if the building is too tall. Instead, 2, 8 floor condos with retail on the bottom levels will be built instead. I kind of like this better anyway, even if they are just midrises. Everything will be demolished except for the Fresh Market, and that will be expanded and renovated. Here is a link to the article.

Yeah, these developers should of know better, that the Augusta National really is a PRIVATE golf course. Since this course has had many of the famous people of world play it, of course it would be a security concern. The 8 story concept would still pose a problem from potential popparatzi or similar.

I would still actually have a place like this built closer to downtown, possibly down by Lake Olmstead if they still want to be "close" to the National. a complex by the lake with a lakefront patio would be a nice commodity. Washington Road in general is not well suited for something like this IMO. It's so sprawled with generic signs and businesses everywhere. Maybe it will work, but I just think it may could benefit elsewhere in the city.

I did like the opportunity that this presented to redevelop the RETAIL portion of National Hills. The mixed use aspect was just icing to me. I would love to see more urban and attractive projects take place along that stretch. I wouldn't be surprised to see this scaled back to the maximum allowable 6 stories, and hopefully become a catalyst for what Washington Rds future redevelopment COULD be...

Looks like the project is still a go and should start when Dillards relocates its store to Riverwatch Commons in 07. No specifics but the condo portion will be 6 floors or less, (most likely 6 since they were going for 17 then 8 floors.)

I think its time that Masters Square center, (or whatever it's called) in the same vicinity be developed into something similar.

The dillards will close in january. No word on if the building will be demolished or who will occupy it.

Fresh Market will be bulldozed in 2008 to become twice the size in the same center. Last Call has been demolished, Somewhere in Augusta moves to the old Doris Diamonds building.

Powers Piano has moved near the Windsor Jewelers side of the center. Sprint is considering a call center in the plaza.
