Wow, I just heard this on the local news.

Unfortunately, 2200 of those 9000 will be Atlanta area jobs. While it could be worse, I am still saddened to see these 2200 people faced with potential job lose. Hopefully.....no, I know, that Delta will emerge from bankruptcy much leaner and stronger. Delta will remain a F500 company but will now be able to compete with much smaller, low cost carriers. Also lucky for Delta, because of their strong community involvement, they have both the city of Atlanta and the state legislature willing to help in any way possible to keep this corporate friend up and running.

We shouldn't forget the pensions that are in jeopardy, either.

Of course, it's good to know that the governments are "friends" with a few of our companies. Always helps in times like this.

Yes, you are right about the pensions. My parents are associates with a retired pilot and he and his wife are very concerned about his pension. I can only imagine what the people who have given so much of their time and sweat are thinking right now. I would not want to be in their position.

This is a lession to the younger people. You can't bank on pensions. Those who save more in 401ks and personal brokerage accounts will be in a much better position than those who rely solely on their pensions.
