It was built it 1894-1896 according to Emporis: Guaranty Building

This building is considered the father of the modern highrise building. Even though it is highly decorative it uses strong vertical lines to emphasise its height. It has a sister building in St. Louis and together these buildings are credited with breaking architecture out of the old time wedding cake way of builing highrises.
