Winston-Salem moves up digital-cities list

Winston-Salem has ascended to second place in the latest ranking of the top 10 "digital cities" in the country. The listing is compild by the Center for Digital Government. Winston-Salem's ranking is in the category of cities with population of between 125,000 and 250,000.

Winston-Salem was tied for 10th place on the same list last year. The city will be recognized at the National League of Cities meeting in Nashville, Tenn., on Dec. 11.

Dennis Newman, the city's chief information officer, attributed the higher ranking to the implementation of "e-government" services, where citizens can pay utility bills online or submit customer-service requests online.
