well the Stallings Mayor really wants a mall i don't see it happening though. Whatever it is will likely be this.. a mall-shopping center hybrid.. probably have the 2nd Target, probably be around where 74 and the Bypass will meet up on the southside of Monroe.. plus Belk and whatever other anchor stores want to move into this new center

I know I've posted about this before but I don't know where. There is a new development that is supposed to be going in on Providence between Waxhaw and Weddington similar to Birkdale Village. This is probably the closest thing to a new mall Union will be getting for a while. I think more big boxes will center around the new Best Buy/ Target shopping center to be close to those stores and that that will eventually suck activity away from Monroe Mall. Sometimes I wonder how long Belk will stay in Monroe Mall before building somewhere else in Monroe. I can eventually see Belk leaving the mall for a free standing Big Box in some Monroe strip mall. Monroe keeps moving up 74 towards Charlotte, everything is uprooting and moving NW and all new activity is being built the same way, NW of the city. This development is leaving a wake of ghetto behind it. I'm truley concerned about Monroe. Concord, Gastonia, and Rock Hill have all blown Monroe out of the water and sometimes it looks like it is all downhill for the city. I think Indian Trail will be the new Monroe and that Monore will be the ghetto behind Indian Trail. As someone who has observed Monore for a couple of decades now I am certain that I wouldn't stay there.
