BB&t is the 8th largest bank in the United States. So why do they have so few towers? The largest is in Raleigh, at 29 stories or so, right? The one in Winston Salem is like 21 stories and the one in Charlotte is 22 stories.

When or if do u guys think they will start building big? Will they build a new one in Charlotte in the near future? Or will they build one in Winston Salem first? I just can't believe that they dont have a tower thats at least 50 stories. A BB&T skyscraper boom has to be looming....right?

BB&T has kind of spread their wealth out evenly though. The headquarters is in Winston yet Raleigh has the tallest. I read an article the other day saying that in Wilson BB&T has 1800 jobs and they are adding more over the next 6 or so months. You would think they would have moved most of these jobs to Winston. It's good to see they are staying loyal to Wilson. But as you can see the potential could have been there for a big tower.

But there is still potential in the future though

They are a very decentralized bank, often letting regional offices handle lending decisions, etc......there are roughly 11 different regions. That being said, there is no need for large numbers of people to be at one location.

They also are not targeting high-net worth individuals. They still act like a community bank, and try to capture the "small town" folk and smaller businesses. These people aren't impressed by soaring skyscrapers.

All that said, I LOVE BB&T, and hope they never get bought. They will probably build something new at some point, but they aren't close to fully occupying the tower here in Charlotte (though the building itself is over 90% leased).

I love them to, I have to. My parents have both worked their over 30 years. Started off in Wilson and now in Raleigh. This weekend I will ask them the same question. See what rumors are going around...lol

I work in the BB&T, and it's not an impressive building inside or out, IMO. It's older with noisy HVAC, and it has uneven floors you can stumble on. Some of the toilets are loose, and you can see them move when someone sits on the opposing toilet in the women's room. :P

It is very close to the transit center, which is helpful on the days I am willing to bus in.

It all depends on which floor you work on. I've worked on three floors inside the building, and some of them have recently been remodeled and are very modern. Others are not so good.

I know for a fact that BofA has floors 10-15, and that Mecklenberg Medical is on 5. I think there's some parole offices somewhere in there as well.

Biggest complaint is the elevators suck bigtime. There's 6 elevators per bank, each one serving 12 or so floors, and it still takes forever.

I'm OK with them. The elevators are faster than the ones at IJL building. And they don't have commercials running from "The Elevator Channel".

Well they've got 29 + 21 + 22 stories.. giving them 72 stories and thus, a tall tower :lol:

Since people were talking about this on "The Vue" -- I'll just mention that the BB&T *does* have a 13th floor. (I used to think it might be a dummy button in the elevator, until I saw someone get on, and press it.)

I suspect this is more of a big deal for residential towers, than commercial.
