condos in DT Greensboro ready to be built

The 5-story, 33-unit Smothers Place Lofts will soon break ground. The development will be located in the Old Greensborough section of downtown. The project was on hold over the last months so it could conform to city ordinances. The project is scheduled to be completed in about a year. Many of the units have already been sold!

It look pretty nice. Housing is always good, and this one isn't too large. The really big ones cause too many traffic problems.

Yea, a really big one wouldn't fit the scale of this section of downtown.

Excellent!!! This type of developments create the momentum needed. Unless you live in Miami, or any similar city, it makes little sense to start with 25+ story buildings. Smothers Place Lofts seems to fit better and serve the purpose well. Great news for Greensboro.

I think eventually Greensboro will get high-rise condos downtown but like you said Raleigh-NC, the momentum has to build. The more people move downtown, the more people will want to live downtown, especially with all the great things that are happening there. high-rise condos will make sense down the road because downtown Greensboro has a small footprint compared to many cities. uptown Charlotte is almost twice the size of downtown Greensboro. Development will have to go up instead of spreading out. Greensboro may still get its high-rise condo soon if the renovation of the 17-story old Wachovia Building goes through. That building is expected to have retail on the first floor, a restaurant on the 2nd floor. The next 4 floors would be office space and the remaining 11 floors condos/apartments. This building is located right across from the proposed site of the central park.
