Project Description

The modernization of Kenmore Square Station is part of the Light Rail Accessibility Program (LRAP) and provides an accessible station with a new bus canopy. The transparent bus shelter was demolished in April 2005, to make way for the new Kenmore Station improvements, which include elevators, escalators, and raised platforms for boarding the new low-floor Green Line vehicles. The project also includes surface improvements to Kenmore Square, which will unite the once divided area with a cantilevered transparent crystalline canopy for buses and easy pedestrian access. The architect and urban designer for the project is DiMella Shaffer, Boston, MA.

I know it all too well. The current bus station is like a bomb shelter. I also like that they've included a walkway from the western end. Currently there is no walkway and people walk in the street to get to the busway from the west side of Kenmore Square.
