Downtown Okemos redevelopment

Third times the charm, I guess.  A major redo of two of the four corners of downtown Okemos just south of the Meridian Mall was approved last week by the township board.  Developers have been trying to get this done for years, but could never quite get the project over the hump.  As I understand it, some construction equipment is already on site.

OKEMOS — Meridian Township leaders have approved a massive development proposal in Okemos.

The area is bordered by Ardmore Avenue and Okemos Road to the east and west and by Methodist and Clinton streets to the north and south. Part of the site is the former home to Bottoms Up dance wear and the Okemos Ace Hardware.

The $110 million project — called the Village of Okemos — includes seven buildings totaling nearly 290,000 square feet. Most of the buildings will be four stories tall. Some will have a fifth story.

The buildings will contain 205 residential units and about 53,000 sq ft of commercial space (the figures in the article are incorrect detailing an slightly older version of the project).  Here are the site plans and elevations:

"Block  3" to the west was originally included in this redevelopment, but may still be an eventual phase of this project.
