Grow Interactive is a pretty major player in the advertising/marketing world. They produced a few campaigns for various companies like Google and Adidas. Today they announced plans for a new facility called Assembly, which looks like a collaborative conference space. They described it better than I could.

An adaptive reuse project, it will restore three historic department store buildings to their original beauty, and connect them together as a modern office and community hub. Every aspect of the space is purpose-built for connections and collisions, and to support the common needs of creators.

We’ll share a large rooftop deck and central gathering spaces, as well as resources like a recording / podcast booth, extra meeting rooms, an event space, a game room, bike storage, shower facilities, a library, and more. On our own, small and independent companies must choose selectively from business resources and cultural amenities like these, but sharing them together lets us all punch above our weight.

This could be a huge spark for this area, and could have a residual effect on downtown and the NEON District.

This was always one of those buildings you just walked on past. Good to see this. I couldn't really tell, but will the ground floor have any kind of retail or restaurant space?

I've walked past this building a million times, and still don't remember seeing it. When I saw the rendering, I thought it was the old Quality Shop on Plume, across from the MacArthur Tide station. Is this the same block with Urban Outfitters and Bonchon Chicken?

It’s north of them. Across the street from the Metro on Granby. Muddy Paws is on the first floor. 400 Granby St - Granby Municipal Building.

This article is from a few months ago and probably got buried under all the news about the casino, but it looks like Assembly will be fully leased upon opening. This is another sign that Norfolk’s office market is still quite healthy.
