Is there a known use for the level above the viewing deck? Why not make the viewing deck on that level? Anyone have any idea how much money it would take to build the same tower say 50 feet taller?

Probably mechanical for the elevator.  It's pretty presumptuous of some of y'all to assume that the City and other parties involved didn't do the calculus on other height options to arrive here.  I'm sure this final product is a balance between functional height and realistic cost.

It is non structural latticed wood. Hopefully they have given some thought as to how to maintain it long term. Should be easier theoretically without any abuse like walkways get.

Conflicting reporting on this.  Greenville Journal says it will be wood. GVL Today says it will be aluminum slats (which tracks with their blurb about the weight of the structure).

Edit: Westsider beat me to it.

I don’t think it would have been that much more expensive. Just drive taller steel beams a little deeper into the ground while making the elevator shaft and surrounding stair well taller.

Also, when setting the height, you're going to want the skyline to rise above the horizon line. If you make the observation deck too high, the skyline is going to be viewed against the backdrop of trees, not sky.

Going off all of the new survey stakes and spray paint markings, something is definitely being planned on the empty grass/gravel lot that is used for overflow parking directly across Mayberry Street from the Delano site.

That sounds like the pickleball site.
