Thanks Fitz, but what are they tearing it down for? To build the new school?
We are building a new Ministry Center. The school has been moved off site, currently using school facilites at New Community church this year and next. We are looking for a new permanent site for the school.
The Ministry Center will be two stories. Southern wall will be about where the south wall of the old school is. We will have parking where the tower crane for VAI2 is currently standing.
Parking lot off Michigan will be reconfigured and expanded.

If I can get pictures of the planned building I will post.

Demolition of the school building at Immanuel Lutheran Church is scheduled to begin this morning.

there's a tower crane base standing along bostwick. I didn't see any additional crane sections, but hopefully soon we'll have another crane gracing our skyline.
Between 1:00 and 5:00 today they added three sections to the tower crane. They were also starting to assemble a large crane on a truck - to add the higher sections?

Thanks for the info Fitz! Does the addition still look like the Design Plus rendering we have seen?
Joe
It looks pretty much the same on the exterior. The earlier drawings you saw probably had the building going all the way to the south end of the property, basically sharing a wall with VAI. The new design is scaled back without the school, hence the parking lot on the south side. South wall in the new plan will basically be where the south wall of the current building is.

Aren't they going to redo that Lutheran School? I thought I saw a Design Plus rendering at one time.

Plans are moving forward. The school has moved off site - currently at the New Community church building on Dean Lake Ave. - plan is for two years at that site. Future location to be determined, but as of now it will not be back at the church on Michigan. Plan is for a two story Ministry Center. Will have a parking lot where the VAI crane is currently standing.
Tentative schedule is for demolition of the old school in February, new construction in March.
Somewhere there is a thread for the church/school building. I expect that thread will be resurrected once there is some action on the site.

I thought someone mentioned here a while back that there would be a tower crane. Phase II is quite a bit taller than Phase I. Maybe mobile cranes aren't tall enough or have enough dexterity.
They are assembling the tower crane right now.

The Towers Building pedestrian bridge is scheduled to be removed between noon and 1:30 p.m., December 2.

This is what I was referring to, taller and narrower. BTW Chris, it has an extra floor:
(what are those trucks hauling out of there?)
It looks like the narrowing comes from the south side. The earlier renderings show the building all the way out to Crescent St.

I'm guessing the "narrowing" of Phase II has something to do with the Immanuel

The only thing I can think of would be the church next door and their plans to demolish their school and build the new one to the South.
As a member of Immanuel, I can tell you that the church plans have no bearing on VAI's timetable.

Speaking of the Van Andel Institute's expansion, there's a proposal in this week's Planning Commission agenda for Immanuel Lutheran to tear down their current school and construct a huge new addition just to the South of the church along Division to make room for VAI - Phase II.

I would post it, but don't have capability at work anymore. PBJ or twoshort wanna give it a try?
It looks like it fits in well with the current church's architecture (even better than the current school).
Immanuel has designs posted on their site here http://www.immanuellcmsgr.org/building.htm

There are some construction photos on the church website. This page http://wwww.immanuellcmsgr.org/photos.asp?...&s=category has pictures looking out from VAI.
