  1. If you're seeking one of the R2D2 tricked-out mailboxes, there's one on Michigan Ave near the 24-hr coney place (between College and Diamond)

(I saw a news report about how USPS expects that people will bring the fam out for a group picture with the mailbox.)

Another is outside of D&W in Gaslight Village.

  2. Now, why does that law make any sense? Is this a law like drugs in Amsterdam...in the books, but rarely inforced? I'd hate to see my BYOB establishments get fined, but the BYOB concept is one of the main reasons I frequent them. Getting a couple drinks in a restaurant is quite expensive, and being able to bring your own allow me to indulge on the food...maybe a fancy sushi roll or something. On the other hand, you can buy a bottle of wine at Bombay Cuisine for $9, but they have to hold a liquor license to be able to do that in the first place. What ever happened to "private property...do as you wish?"

As a licensed establishment I would say the primary reasons for this are training and liability. How will you verify age and if the customer becomes intoxicated how will you address this? I think as aprivate club you used to be able to allow "members" to BYOB, but you were then regulated by the state.

  3. There's a request for a transfer of liquor license for a "Louie's" and the "Rocket Lounge" in today's City Commission Agenda, at 608 Bridge St, which has been undergoing renovations over the past couple of months. Anyone know any more details?

I would imagine they might have a hard time getting the transfer. If memory serves me right I recall that the owner of Monte's and O'Tooles was denied this last year for another establishment in this same area. The community was opposed to more bar activity in this neighborhood.

  4. We actually looked at leasing the space next door to our old location prior to moving here. That building was quite old and our landlord really wasn't prepared to invest money on upgrades. We actually had to close there twice because it was raining in our kitchen.

But I understand what you mean, that is a great neighborhood there.

  5. I'm telling you, the area could use another bar or two, even with the approved Meanwhile project. With 20,000 residents living within a 15 minute walk at most, bring it on.

Don't forget the red wine, I prefer a Shiraz.

I know it's not Easttown but our place is on Croswell in Gaslight Village. Full bar/no smoking. I don't want to look like I am trying to advertise but I would put my pizza up against anyones.
