  1. As soon as Larry was elected as mayor I said it would be a matter of time before he was arrested.. it happened today.. I truly believe Larry saw it coming long ago.. it's the reason he's been so darn busy. I know I'm not liked a whole lot on these boards for my conservative views.. but I TOLD YOU GUYS SO

I thought it was really sad when Larry said the reasons for his arrest were because he was a black democrat... seriously

  2. The wife and I visited New Orleans today... we are from the Birmingham Alabama area... man I was really impressed with the hustle and bustle of New Orleans.. the people there are different.. well because I'm a conservative Christian.. but we all had a blast! I'm originially from Shreveport so I have a great love for Louisiana.. I'm proud to be from there! we're unique :) we're on a mission trip on the Miss Gulf coast.. I was saddened to hear how people here are kind of angry still because NO had gotten all the attention.. when the organizers here heard that our group planned an outting to NO they were like I wouldn't go there for nothin! sin city! I was like ehh ok.. sure it's a little more rowdy and there's a lot of drinking and such.. but I so enjoyed the architecture of the city.. I love photography and I was eatin that stuff up there.. all in all a really unique beautiful city!

  3. Wow. I read that article early this morning when it was posted and never saw that name. Looks interesting... maybe it'll come to be. Surely they're looking to expand into Louisiana, and with Shreveport being so close to their Dallas market, this would be a prime location to begin their Louisiana push.

I'm going to have to come down a weekend just to shoot photos.. it was family all day today as well.. didn't think my sister was coming up today.. one day we will shoot again!

  4. No... perhaps the largest. They are saying the Haynesville Shale could be the single largest natural gas field ever discovered.

I don't know much about Chesapeake, but I know their local base of operations is a fairly new building on Sligo Road. I've passed it almost every day this week. Not sure how much Chesapeake, but one company is paying $10,000 per acre with 25% royalty, which is by far the highest at the moment.

By the way, Craig, are you in town yet? Give me a call on my cell whenever you want to shoot. I'm busy today and some of tomorrow, but will be free part of the day tomorrow and probably all of Monday.

yeah Im home! perhaps tomorrow afternoon we can go shoot a little?

  5. Actually, the Macy's in Lake Charles closed a year ago. It couldn't generate enough money, and it was even a small store at that. Also, don't feel so left out for not having a Macy's. Mobile's CSA is over 500,000, and they dont even have a Macy's, nor even a decent mall, or, well, any decent shopping for that matter(and I have said that in the Mobile forum, and most of Mobilian's agree).

Shreveport-Bossier is WAY ahead of the curve with the number and type of retailers for a city of its size, especially with the Boardwalk. ;)

Does anyone know anymore about the Chesapeake Energy Corporation.. My brother told me yesterday about how they are buying everyones mineral rights around the Shreve area.. says the area is about to prosper big time from natural gas.. I heard the 2nd largest deposit in the country perhaps has been discoverd right under shreveport!

  6. I agree they have been provide quite a bit of shelters, but many of them are too stubborn or have too much pride to go to them. Its not only Kelly Ingram Park, Linn Park is also dealing with this problem. It's so bad at Linn Park that most gov't employees or other City Center workers don't even like going through the park. at all BPD does need to step up and get this problems under control because it seems to be impeding the progressive and safe image of the City Center.

Linn park is crowded with homeless.. it's pretty insane! There were dozens of them the other night in a group... made me feel a little uneasy... but, I talked to a couple of guys.. they seemed nice I gave em a couple of dollars.. they said they were going to rallys haha I wonder if thats where it went?

  7. On an interesting related but kind of unrelated note: the Schaeffer's Crawfish Boil this past weekend should be a good preview of some of the larger events such as concerts and other events at the Forge's amphitheater. It was exciting to see this portion of the City Center very vibrant at night. One can only hope that it continues to be this way more often.

an entertainment district is badly needed! I missed the crawfish boil.. wish I hadn't... I'm one of those crawfish eaters from Louisiana! back home Shreveport has an awesome festival pavilion... B'ham could use one about 5 times larger just like it! we need something like this I believe! post-9219-1210038979_thumb.jpg

  8. Well, whoever is doing the name dropping is doing those developments a disservice. It makes those developments very disappointing to me. Anyway. I have been wondering, did that Bombay store beside Pier 1 in Shreveport close? It looks closed to me, but I wasn't sure.

I also thought that Longhorn bypassed Shreveport for Bossier, but I'm not so sure. Their website is hiring managers for Shreveport and Bossier. You know that the company that owns Longhorn (Darden Restaurants) has that empty BBQ restaurant over in front of Circuit City. They could always revamp it and move in. It's just a thought.

I think it would be awesome if Podnuhs opened another store in the old place near eh JUST FOR FEET. it looks like a perfect spot.. what was that place called? that other bbq that wasnt all that great

  9. That must be the dirt work that's being done across 157 from the Texaco on the north side of I-20. I've been wondering about that.

And where in the heck would Walgreens build a store near CVS? There's no room over there. It will be interesting to see what gets torn down and replaced, I suppose.

I may never be able to tell what I know... who knows. But I know something else as well. ;) An architect I'm doing some commercial photography work for told me about something else that has been discussed. Of course I can't talk about that either.

So anyway... about that site in front of Strawn's. Yeah I'd like to know as well. Maybe PF Chang's is building there instead? Doubt it. My guess would be another of those little retail outparcel buildings like they have all around that shopping center.

Brian can you tell me since I don't even live in Louisiana anymore? :o

  10. That's good, though I'm trying to recall in my mind if the quality of The Dallas Morning News is the same as USA Today. If not, I believe it's close. I can't recall.

    Still, this is great. :)

that's awesome news... from what I remember the pictures looked like dookie in the paper! I didn't realize how bad it was till I moved up here.. photos are bright clear

  11. I guess she was due her little shopping spree, since I now have right around $5,000 tied up in this. Dropping $1200 on a camera and a battery grip is nothing in the world of pro and semi-pro photography. I still feel like I don't have much, since I have no L-series (professional) lenses YET. Geez, and some serious pros drop $35,000 on one camera body (Hasselblad) plus tens of thousands more on lenses. A fella can dream... :)

yeah that's crazy! I would never get a medium format though.. I'm lacking in lens's I think when I get the E3 I will get the 12-60mm 2.8 it is supposed to be the quickest combo in the world!

    anyways sorry!

  12. That's what I was thinking. When I saw "LSUS" I wondered how they would see the stars in that part of Shreveport, especially since they're only about 1 mile from the shopping district which is VERY well-lit. My wife and I just got home (it's almost midnight) after spending about $700 at the big sale going on at JC Penney until midnight. Those women love to shop...

Hey Darius. Nope, even with a metro area of around 400,000, no Cheesecake Factory. You typically won't find them in a market this size. We have Copeland's Cheesecake Bistro at the Boardwalk, though. ;)

I grew up in mansfield.. I wouldnt wanna go down there to look at any stars... yikes!

I thought they built a cheesecake factory at the boardwalk? We have just about everything imaginable over here.. you just have to find it.

  13. Fantastic view, Paul. Finally someone else is getting in on the action in this thread. You really should do this more often, especially since you have an XTi.

That's from the University Club, it would appear. I still haven't taken my friend up on his offer to take me up on the roof of that building for some photos overlooking the city. I really need to do that, it's been well over a year now since he offered.

Either (1) you were mounted on a tripod for a long exposure, (2) you had a cross-screen filter on your lens, or (3) the windows up there gave a really cool long exposure/cross-screen type of effect to many of the city lights in your shot.

I'll be back home on the 15th! yehaw! brian we have to go shooting!

  14. I'd rather improve crime fighting myself.. maybe enlarging the force and better training? getting the police involved in the areas that they work in... I dunno

A dome can be positive.. I just wish the dome would be built further away from the city center or improve the infrastructure surrounding the proposed dome.. I went to a steeledawgs vs battlewings game... 1,200 people there and it was still a pain to park and get out of there.. that's really bad! maybe something else was going on down there?? I hate merging over across 3 lanes of traffic in 50 yards to get back on I-65.. I don't understand why you have to get on the interstate on the inside of the lanes and not the outside.. sorry for ranting!

    anways..

  15. A few photos from last night's Rockets Over the Red along the Shreveport-Bossier riverfront. For those who've never been, fireworks are shot off from a barge in the middle of the Red River, as well as from the Texas Street Bridge which spans the two cities. The show can be seen from numerous points throughout the two cities' downtowns, but the best spots from which to view the fireworks are definitely Shreveport's Riverview Park and the Louisiana Boardwalk. The show is synchronized to the music of Trans-Siberian Orchestra, and along the Shreveport side of the river there are food and beer booths, as well as live music. The live music was cancelled due to cold rain and sleet that came down during this year's show. But despite the weather, Brian and his trusty camera and tripod were down there. An umbrella keeps the equipment as dry as possible until Brian can shell out $5,000 for a 1-series camera and a few thousand more dollars for some L lenses and not have to worry about the rain. ;)

    Anyway... the photos:

And for the hell of it, let's revisit last year's Rockets Over the Red show, where the weather was much nicer: Click here to view!

looks like it was huge this year! The best fireworks I've ever seen are THE ROCKETS OVER THE RED

  16. I've been wondering (like Mudbugger) about the land facing Bert Kouns, just west of Linwood. Well, according to this ZBA agenda item, a retail strip center is planned for that spot and Thrifty Liquor is seeking approval to build a store on an outparcel.

Then I have to ask myself... how many farking Thrifty Liquor stores do we need? Bossier City has 4 within a 2-3 square mile area of one another and they're all over Shreveport as well. Don't get me wrong, when I want liquor I always go to Thrifty because it's cheap... but DAMN!

oh yeah man that would be DECEMBER! haha sorry

  17. No doubt. Of course D&B's is welcome anywhere in Shreveport-Bossier! lol We'll definitely take it, no!? :)

that's really awesome! I miss SHREVEPORT BOSSIER! Everybody on the Birmingham forums seem like they have something stuck up their rear ends.. most unfriendly people ever!

Brian I will be back in town 15th through 19th.. we should go on a Shreveport photo tour!
