  1. 3/4 of those restaurants closed because of one guy's bad management.

Symposium always seemed to have a crowd, but I still think they had a bad location. That part of Gville Highway just isn't very condusive to subruban box development.

Reidville Rd, however, is much different. Thats why I think you are seeing the reversal of commercial sprawl back to Blackstock- it connects to Ezell/Gville Hwy as well as Reidville Rd... it gives you access to the north/Arcadia area, and the south/Roebuck area, as well as I-26 (two exits). I think that we will see a gradual shift over to Reidville Rd afer Blackstock emerges as the place to be for commercial retail in Spartanburg.

I hadn't heard of that Chilis! Thats very exciting. I can't believe that they don't have an operation here yet. We need one in Hillcrest too.

I wouldn't say Symposium's location killed them... Shogun and I-Hop both are there and have great business.

  2. the Herald Journal is reporting that Symposium Cafe on hwy.29 has now closed. I saw this one coming. The food was not that great and prices were high. I also thought the name was not a good fit with their menu items. Oh well, at least they paid their employees.

  3. Oh no, its not different. They changed the power cord to the MagSafe technology on laptops when they switched to intel. So I meant the 'old kind' that was used for the PPC laptops.

yeah, that's what I meant. I might have one in-stock.. I'll look. we just moved from our downtown office and a lot of stuff is still packed in boxes. what model do you have?

  4. Spartanburg is often overlooked because it is overshadowed by its neighbor to the west. People forget that Spartanburg used to be larger than Greenville, and thus had more businesses get started here in those days.

Congratulations! What do you mean by "ish" ?

And do you sell power cords for PPC macs?

we sell Apple and HP. I am also a Lenovo dealer but I haven't sold any in a while now. I don't like calling it an "Apple" store because we sell other stuff too.. but it is primarily Apple hardware! 99% of my business is service related though (been around since 1994).

by PPC you mean Power PC based Macs? I wasn't aware they used a non-standard power cord (except for Powerbooks)... what model?

  5. I finally ate at Lime Leaf over the break, and I was very impressed. Its a great atmosphere and great food, and I say that as someone who isn't normally a fan of asian food.

Also, Hub City Grille has mysteriously closed....

Outwest steakhouse closed too... same owner.. News Channel 7 had a story tonight on how both restaurants had screwed their employees out of money. It's sad because Outwest was a really nice restaurant and had really good food.

  6. I'd recommend looking at the locations Apple has for its retail stores- most are in high-end malls in larger cities. Why doesn't Apple have any in more mid-tier malls in smaller cities?

oh, believe me, I am very familiar with Apple's retail operations. In fact, I have visited about 30 of their stores including the mega stores in NY and Chicago. I don't think we'll ever see an Apple store in Spartanburg. At least it's not on their "roadmap" for now and probably won't be. They are looking at Greenville but it's not happening this year.

  7. Right... I didn't mean move from Greenville. Just move in to the area :)

Apple Store!! WOW, you guys are always one step ahead of me.. I was coming here to get some opinions about Apple in Westgate. I have recently become an authorized Apple Reseller and a business partner and I are considering a retail store in Westgate Mall. With Vista being delayed, and Apple at least 12-24 months away from launching a Greenville store, I think now is a good time. Plus, Apple is hoping to cash in big time this holiday season, hence the new marketing campaign. So, do you guys think we can sell enough $1299 iMacs to cover our expenses?? What would you like to see in a independent Apple retail store?? We plan to carry other gadgets too.. any good store names??

  8. its good, but not worth the money in my opinion... gotta love sun king

Sun King? you gotta be kidding me

all of those Buffet places taste the same.. gimme somthing exciting! I mean, I go there myself on occasion, but it's not worth mentioning.

I hear Firehouse is pretty good. I have been meaning ot go to the one here in Clemson, but I have yet to go.

I am a big fan of Uncle Poon's for Chinese.

That whole SUmmit Pointe things confuses me. They claimed that it was going to be a great thing, but development has been insanely slow. Its been at least a year since the new theater opened, and we have only seen a handfull of reastaurants open in that strip nearer to Westgate, and City Range. Thats it.

I have heard that Marble Slab still will open in that site if they can ever get it going. I still think it should go downtown though. Anyone know how the one in Hillcrest is doing?

I also think that as those businesses/ restaurants locate there, they will annex into the city simply so they can sell alcohol on Sundays- just like City Range did. Perhaps that is what they are waiting on? I have no idea.

As for annex that area... I know for fact that City Range is in the City because I had a couple of drinks last Sunday evening. Not sure where the line falls.

  9. all of the mentioned places are great.. except I am not thrilled with Mutt's.

I think my all-time favorite place in Spartanburg has to be the Peddler Steakhouse. anyone else??? Stefano's was also a great place unil the owner killed himself a few months back. I hear the family has no plans to open back up.
