  1. According to the Repeat Atl blog, the Faconnable boutique was pushed back to May '09 due to a delay in Victoria Secret's new store. It also reports that luxury hosiery retailer Wolford is scheduled to open a store at Phipps and that Thomas Pink is said to be in talks for space at Lenox.

Does anyone think that Lenox would land another Spanish retailer? Mango, or MNG by Mango as it is referred to in the US?

  2. On my way to school this morning, I saw two hot air balloons gearing up for take off in Elmington Park [in front of West End Middle]. One balloon had a bag printed with the Vanderbilt Medical Center logo and the other was none other than the logo for Signature Tower. I suppose that Tony G is taking his advertising to new "heights."

  3. This is from the NBJ and is notthe full article.

    http://nashville.bizjournals.com/nashville.../08/story2.html

    The highlights are:

Location: Sam Ridley Parkway & I-24

    Size: 86 acres

Components: Retail & Residential including a Super Target, Three mid box size stores and a Department Store

The company heading up this development, Colonial Properties Trust, completed a similar project in the Turkey Creek area of Knoxville. As for the detparment store, I would assume it'll probably be a Belk.

  4. Interesting... I didn't know that BiLo had any stores in the NSH metro. I think they own the Chattanooga market, and some of the stores are actually decent. But they're not Publix.

Have you guys in Nashville seen any changes in the Kroger stores since Publix moved in a few years ago? Just curious b/c there was a big push to update stores in ATL. It's quite natural not to spend money unless/until you have to.

I used to work for Bi-Lo in Knoxville and in Murfreesboro while going to school and I thought that their stores were far better than Kroger. There stores seemed to be well kept and up to date. And Royal AHOLD was a good company to work for. The Knoxville stores were sold to KVAT, Inc. aka Food City. Too bad there aren't going to be any in the area anymore. Also, Bi-Lo carried many specialty foods [foreign brands] that I don't think you could find at any other store...perhaps it was because of the company's Scandinavian roots.

  5. Prada will be unlikely. They are a stickler for avoiding malls/urban centers (with Manhasset and Bal Harbour as the only exceptions.) They have said numerous times that their only interest is streetscape shopping (Rodeo, Madison, etc) and have no interest in the future to open in urban centers. FCUK and A/X will probably do the best, both targeting the younger population as most stores in SouthPark seem to be. Does anyone know what stores they are wooing?

New higher-end concept b A&F. THey are undergoing huge expansion in the US and planning to open 7-8 stores by the end of the year.

You can visit their website, www.ruehl.com, for more information. I believe this concept caters toward the college graduate crowd [22 - early 30's].

  6. ^ I tend to agree with your comments and can only hope that this will make more sense as time goes on. The gravel lot right next to the rec center tends to fill up a lot of the time in my experience, but the big one behind Scarlett Commons never has more than a handful of cars in it. It makes me wonder if they're planning to put up a building on top of one of those lots at some point.

A walkway over Rutherford Blvd. is a great idea. Someone also suggested a tunnel underneath the road at one point as well here on the forum.

Isn't the new UC supposed to built somewhere behind or adjacent to Corlew & Cummings covering the old rec field? When I was a student, I heard that they were wanting to put it in the new "center" of campus [inproximity to the library, BAS, LRC, & the Mass Comm buildings]. Check out the campus map here and you'll see what I'm talking about.

What they really need to do is go up and build a parking garage near Murphy Center and charge admission for all of those TSSAA championships that they host.

Anyone know of numbers for fall enrollment?

  7. What really strikes me about this project, is that it's going to be considerably bigger than any of their other "Avenue" projects around the country. Not only that, but it's going to be about four times bigger than The Oaks Shopping Center already partially completed in The Gateway area.

My thoughts exactly. I can only imagine something similar to the Cool Springs area in Williamson or even the Turkey Creek development in Knoxville.

  8. The following link is to an article published Monday on the Nashville Business Journal Web site:

    http://www.bizjournals.com/nashville/stori...html?from_rss=1

Construction has begun on The Avenue, an outdoor mall ("lifestyle center") that will be located on Medical Center Parkway between I-24 and Thompson Lane. Interesting news from the article that was news to me is the announcement that Longhorn Steakhouse and Romano's Macaroni Grill will be included in the project.

Over the course of the last week or so I've noticed that they've been clearing the land over there, and it's been exciting indeed to see that this project is getting off the ground in a visual way. I'm very much looking forward to seeing construction progress over the course of the next several months.

My apologies if this should have been posted in the construction sightings thread. I wasn't sure if that was for Nashville-specific projects, or new construction projects that fall within any city the Nashville forum covers.

Here's another article from the DNJ. It also lists Carter's, Lane Bryant, Limited Too, Off Broadway and Osh Kosh B'Gosh as making their way to 'boro. I wonder if there would be any chance of another department store opening in this development? Macy's? Nevertheless, good news for the 'boro.

  9. I took the picture from atop the Vulcan Park tower during my stay in B'ham this weekend. I've traveled through B'ham many times, but I've never actually spent time roaming about the city. I must say that there's alot going on [similar to Nashville's downtown] and many things to do.
