  1. Paper says today that Bentonville's population has crossed the 40,000 threshold and is on track to be 65,000 by 2030.  That averages out to 1,600+ new residents per year in "Bennie" up to that year.

What are the population stats for Fayetteville, Springdale and Rogers up until 2030?
  2. Wonder what might be built at this prime location in downtown Lafayette?? A nice mixed-use project might work well!

Lafayette Works On Courthouse Demolition Plan

A plan to demolish the Old Federal Courthouse is moving forward in Downtown Lafayette. The idea is to make way for new development. The Lafayette Economic Development Authority is working on an agreement to take ownership of the property, demolish it, and redevelop the site. The building has been vacant since 1999

Wow! Lafayette is really doing a lot! Lafayette is probably the fastest growing city in the state.
  3. To Darius: you'll love Buffalo Wild Wings most likely. I fell in love with the chain before we ever had one after I visited the one in Champaign, IL. I will tell you that the experience is much cooler in a college town like that, because the energy is amazing. But the one at the Boardwalk is nice... despite the small riot that broke out there a few months back.

Riot? You have to tell me about that. What was that all about?

  4. I just noticed that Waffle House has applied for zoning to place a new 24-hour restaurant on the east side of North Market, just south of Ravendale. As much as I'm in favor of infill developments like this, there's no way I'd stop in and eat at that Waffle House after dark. I probably wouldn't even eat there during the daytime!

Also in zoning news, I saw where "Mr. Bible Baptist Church" has applied to expand their existing church. I didn't realize we had a church named "Mr. Bible Baptist Church."

I don't know what it is about Waffle House but I've been to several from California to Texas to Missouri and they all had nasty tables, sticky menus and the service wasn't all that great.

  5. Queens as in homosexual guys, drag queens, or drama queens?

Damn... 5 am!?!? Geez! lol Which IHOP did you end up eating at?

You got back to Texarkana when the rest of the world was waking up. I didn't know you were such a party animal, Darius! :D

LOL! I meant effeminate gay guys. We ate at the IHOP on Youree. LOL! Every now and then I like to just go off and have me some fun.

  6. The TND development Provenance, in extreme south Shreveport, is progressing nicely. I was actually out there just 2 weeks ago and was impressed with its growth. A Red RIver Bank branch is under construction there, which will include a neighborhood post office for the village.

I'll be down in your neck of the woods tonight. I'll be gambling and visiting with friends. By the time I get down there it will be dark and I won't be able to look around the city. Thanks for all the info on new projects because I love that city!

  7. Haughton's population could double in size over the next 3-5 years, says Mayor Billy Maxey.

    A couple of excerpts:

Like most of Bossier Parish, the town of Haughton is experiencing tremendous growth with the construction of new subdivisions and businesses within the town limits. And with that growth comes additional traffic for the roadways, students for the schools and continued stress on the town

  8. I discovered in Google Earth a way to find recent aerials in the Digital Globe Coverage layer option. I found 2 aerial shots of SBC that were taken in November 2006. I stitched them together and labeled some of the major new developments over the last few years that are now visible. The detail isn't great, but you can see progress:

That's cool! I'm always glad to hear SBC doing it big.

  9. Allegiant Air is expanding their service to include more flights to/from Vegas and Orlando at SHV.

Allegiant to expand flights to Las Vegas, Orlando

I know the flights to Vegas have been booked to capacity for a while. Maybe eventually they'll begin to add daily flights. I'm going to start connecting thru Vegas to Shreveport if possible - what a luxury it would be to have a full-size jet to SBC!

Wow! That's really cool! Shreveport is really becoming a hub.

  10. In the words of Ronald McDonald, I'm lovin it. :D

I bought my fryer and most of the week I have Buffalo wings for dinner. But I have the occasional steak, and usually have eggs & bacon for breakfast. At IHOP I always get a side salad and that enormous Colorado Omelette. I love that thing.

I think the reason I was able to get over the sickness this time was the fact that I HAD to do something and I needed something that starts working immediately. When I put on a pair of pants a few weeks back and they barely fit, I knew it was time to change. Well, I knew it was time to get out of denial. I was always a thin, athletic guy and now I'm a fat guy with bad health problems in my mid-20s. But hey, I'm getting back to where I need to be, one Buffalo wing at a time!! :D

Maybe WingStop will hire me to be their 'Jared.' No one would believe I've lost nearly 20 pounds eating mostly Buffalo wings.

Wow! That's cool! Maybe I should try that because I love chicken wings. When I go to IHOP I always get the breakfast sampler.

  11. Darius, if I didn't have to work tomorrow I'd try to catch up with you while you're in town.

I hope you enjoy yourself. You'll definitely want to take I-20 to Airline Drive and just drive Airline all the way to Benton. You can turn left in Benton and cross over to Benton Road, passing by the new court house and new library, and then take Benton Road back into Bossier City and see more new subdivisions on the way back into Bossier.

If you do go out there, in particular take note of the area around I-220/Airline where all of Bossier's new retail development is going on.

As for south Shreveport, just take I-49 to Southfield/Hollywood, take Southfield down to Youree. Then take Youree all the way to Bert Kouns and you'll go right through the middle of everything. Right across the street from Krispy Kreme you'll see where work is underway on Regal Court. Also if you get a chance, you can drive into Shreve City and see the new Wal-Mart development coming up or check out one of the TNDs under construction (Island Park and Provenance.)

Again, do enjoy yourself and come back to the board with a great opinion of Shreveport-Bossier. :) I know you already like the area but I want you to like it more with every visit. It's just a short drive from Texarkana metro, and our areas already share a media market. Both of our metros are growing, and both of us seem to enjoy visiting the others' area.

Thanks man! I know I'll have a wonderful time. That would be cool if we could meet up and you could give me an in depth tour of the city. It was cold as hell last night. It was down to about 24. It snowed and sleeted just a little bit. Did it do anything in your neck of the woods? Isn't crazy that when we have winter weather here you guys usually get rain?
  12. That's pretty cool. Texas schools are doing very well. This is one area I think Louisiana needs to work on, but I'm not sure if the population demographics can support more than what's there.

Are there any other state universities in Texarkana?

Wow, I just checked out Texas A&M - Texarkana's page and it's got some interesting demographics -- 75% female! That's a huge disparity. I thought LSUA was bad at 70% or so. I guess it's good for the young single guys that go those schools

No, we don't have any other universities but we do have Texarkana College which is a junior college. Even at TC there seems to be more female than male students.

  13. Yep, San Antonio's got overpasses going up all over the place. It's pretty impressive -- I really like the design of them too, oddly enough. They're kinda futuristic looking. Sorry I don't have a picture.

Oh yes, we're getting a new college campus here too -- Texas A&M is going to build a 400 acre campus here. They've also got a Toyota plant coming, which is also impressive.

I hope Louisiana can see great things like this happen, especially in SBC! I know LSUS and Tech had plans of some kind of merger. Hopefully that'll happen. That can really help a community

That's cool your city is getting a new Texas A&M campus. Texarkana is too. Ours will be on about the same amount of acreage as the one in your city.
