I drove by just now and work is fully underway. BUT, I am hopeful that some of the trees may stay. It seems like the ones closest to the sidewalk MIGHT be spared.
I am very excited about this project and have my fingers crossed for the Citi tower. It will bring such great density to the neighborhood and hopefully some retail and more restaurants and activity.
I'll post pictures when there is something interesting to see. Right now, it is just a bunch of cut up trees.

According to this article in the Sentinal, it looks like work is going to start on 420 Church Street next week. I figure I'd start a new thread for it. I live close by so I'll check in with pictures, but I'm excited about this one. I live in the South Eola neighborhood and I've been a little jealous of all of the action in other parts of town:

Slated for June MPB meeting:
412 E Church St.
PD Amendment request to allow for a 300 unit 9 story residential building with ground level retail on the block between Church, Mariposa, Lake and Osceola.
I saw a Terracon truck on this site today doing some work. Environmental study maybe?

Does anybody know of anything happening, apartment wise, on any of the vacant lots in South Eola? The new construction seems to be on the north side of Orange and it seems like now would be a perfect time for some of those long considered apartments in South Eola.
Thanks!

On my way home from work yesterday I noticed some heavy equipment on site at the FUMCO. Today I noticed that there is construction fencing up all the way around the building and it looks like it has already been torn up on the inside.
Is this thing getting ready to be torn down for the re-routing of South Street in anticipation of the construction of the performing arts center? Does anyone have any info?

Looks like they might be trying to reassure us that things are going as planned and that this thing is on track to be finished.

The flag is back up... I wonder where it went?

I saw a flyer posted up downtown saying that they are going to unveil the design in the City Hall Rotunda at 10AM on Friday morning. Anybody know anything about this?

Has anyone seen this place at about 10 or 11 on a weekend night? It is SLAMMED! There are artists painting outside, people milling about, and musicians strumming the guitar. Things are really picking up. I would love to see a national tenant take a second floor space. Crate & Barrel, barnes and noble, borders, gap. Maybe even a national restaurant. anyone else have any ideas?

It would make sense that the movie theater is not dead..I mean what else are you going to do with a movie theater space with high ceilings and sloped floors for stadium seating? Maybe it will be less theaters, smaller operator, independent movies, etc. I really think a theater can succeed here.
On another note, I drove past the Plaza last night around 10pm and the place was slammed. Both Corona Cigar Bar and Urban Flats were packed with artists and other types selling their wares in the open area. This place has a ton of foot traffic and is slowly becoming a great success.

The guy at the auction told me that the movie theater is set to open memorial day...anyone else hear this? He said that he has been in there and that buildout continues in the nighttime. He also said that tenants such as Coldstone and NYPD Pizza are waiting to open until the theater opens. Anyone else have any thoughts on this?

They are repeating this same rumor on the FSU message boards as well...As an FSU fan, this would be awesome!! On the other hand, maybe this is just an attempt on the part of the citrus bowl to float a rumor about what is possible post renovation to make sure that they do not get left out of the funding vote..

Walked by today...looks like Urban flats is going to open any day now. They had a bunch people in there, looks like they were training and trying out food and recipes. Looks great, I can't wait to go down there and get some food.
On the negative side, no way the move theater opens next week. I don't know what the problem is here, but it is annoying, we need to get this corner up and running!!
