  1. This issue is so embarassing. The fact that taxpayers will have to pay for this not to be built is really disgraceful. Granted, I am not too familar with the design, but a nice four story building along New York Avenue would be great. It would make more sense for them to pay to build it.

Wow, I started doing some research on this exact issue a few days ago but never got too far. It is supposed to go down Church Street but I had heard talk of it being on Central. I went to a Downtown Development type luncheon on Thursday and one of their slides showed it on Church, which is great. The Lymmo service has its own dedicated lanes, so there would be considerable construction involved. They should do this soon. There will be a good amount of units coming on-line pretty soon.

They put one of the beams on the 408-I4 interchange today/tonight. Wow, it's pretty high up there. Looks really cool.
  4. I am a little confused. How many units could be built today based on the current zoning and how many more could be added based on the City's intensity bonus? Also, how did your original and your revised development program match up density-wise? I just hate to see the City limit development rights on properties downtown. Developers seem to get away with anything out in suburbia and an excellent project downtown like this one should not be unfairly restricted. Also, I thought that there was no height limit other than the FAA approval requirement. Clearly, I was fond of the original rendering.

I agree completely. Can you give some more background on the statute that Edgewood used to block the Central Connector? I have always hoped that this road could still be built to make travel to/from the airport more reasonable for downtown residents/businesses.
  6. The original design really should stay. I see the traffic as a non-issue and it appears from the minutes that the City Traffic Engineer felt the same. Obviously, no major road improvements are going to occur on any of these downtown streets and if this could not be approved based on traffic issues, then I cannot see how anything could be approved. I see traffic as a non-issue for this project. I think the City procedure for this type of approval is pretty clear. The property is zoned for a certain density. If the Applicant wants to request a bonus above the approved density, then they must provide good justifcation in the form of extra amenities and other public benefits. Clearly, the kisk-ass seating area along Lake Eola would be a good example. I would really hate to see this project downgraded.
  7. I read the minutes from the MPB hearing yesterday and was unable to determine why the project was denied. There is just no evidence from the minutes to help understand this. Did they point to any specific issues as to why they did not support the staff report? Normally, the staff report rules unless their is intense public opposition.
  8. I wonder how they will resolve the issue of extending Magnolia to the south. Obviously, the PAC design currently shows Magnolia to be closed off.
  9. Parking pedestal was well well hidden on this one. I thought they did a great job.
  10. They really need to build the Central Connector that Pine Castle blocked back in 1991 so people living downtown (and hopefully some name companies some day) can get to/from the airport easily. It blows my mind that they can actually build stuff like the new Maitland extension and other sprawly nonsense but a road connecting downtown to the airport is not even considered.
  11. But those are actual places that have a real purpose outside of tourism.

They are "completing plans"? I thought this was permitted and moving forward.
  13. Yeah, I've been real impressed with how quickly this thing is moving along.

    The Plaza

Will there be anything on the ground floor along Magnolia?
  15. This new emphasis on grabbing more foreign travellers should help too. We should have some serious international flights when this terminal is complete.
  16. Their approval seems to show both or at least they had to set aside some easements for them to be built in the future.
  17. They actually used blue tape to connect sections of the railing that were taken down to get the furniture in. Railing was all chewed up and twisted and looks terrible. I can't understand why the entire pedestrian area for this building was just forgotten. I think the building looks fine.
  18. Is this place fully open? I walked by today and swanksters were setting up tables and chairs in the outdoor seating area. They had a crap handrail that was curved yesterday but it is gone today.
  19. I thought I-4 was supposed to have 4 lanes in each direction over JYP. Does anyone have a design link? Also, does anyone have a design link for the new Rosalind Ave. off ramp from the East-West?

There is a similar project being designed in Atlanta that utilizes many existing lines around town.

That appears to be an ebay link.

I spent an evening researching this a month ago. There is a study with four options that included a connection from the airport to the new commeter line at Sand Lake/Orange Ave. I have seen two different locations for this station though. One is north of Sand Lake and one is south. The line continues west to the tourist area. It would almost provide a direct connection to the airport if it weren't for the weird jog with connections in the Vista Centre area. This station would be key for downtown in my opinion. I still think the Central Connector is a necessity though. Driving in Managua style conditions up 436 to get downtown from the airport is crazy. This should not impress corporate types looking for a possible move here.
  23. Common concrete with some standard FDOT highway handrails ending at a Type E inlet. Real nice.
