  1. Your link has an extra protocol http:// in it, so it's not working. However, I was able to bypass the link and go straight to it.

It must have been odd seeing your street like that on the 'net!!

I actually watched it first in Ohio. Katrina came just 2 weeks after I went there looking. I was desperate to find any information on how the house was.

It's great that you can watch it, but I can't. Quicktime doesn't seem to want to be loading for me.

  2. Finishing up the beers that I liked

    Fuller's-ESB/London Pride/India Pale Ale

    Radeberger-Pilsner

    Erdinger-Weisbier Dunkel

    Paulanor-Salvator

    Ayinger-Celebrator

    Spaten-Optimator/Oktoberfestbier

    Franziskaner-Hefe Weisse/Dunkel

    Hoegaarden-Witbier

    Moretti-Birra La Rossa

    Samuel Smith-Oatmeal Stout/Imperial Stout/India Ale

    Lindemans-Framboise

  3. Depends on what kind of beer it is. I think lagers are meant to be cool to somewhat cold. But stuff like ales I try to drink the British way. :D

Apparently the room temperature refers to the cellar the beers were stored in, not in the way Americans think of room temperature, about 55 degrees, or around the range I drink at.

  4. I wouldn't drink beer at room temperature. I prefer it cool, not ice cold. Between about 48-65 degrees. That's when I first start, if it warms up to room temperature by the time I'm almost finished then that's ok.

  5. Neither could I, for me those beers were a case of grin and bear it. I drank beer just to get drunk, but I never liked the taste, even enjoying light beers more because they weren't so annoyingly bitter (not from hops). I grouped beers into, according to taste, tolerable or intolerable. Budweiser was tolerable, Busch was intolerable. MGD was tolerable until the last inch of beer in the bottle got warmer and then it was all I could do to keep from puking.

Then that fateful day came back in 1998, for some unfathomable reason I decided to look up beer reviews on the internet, and I learned about all these beers I've never heard of. I was amazed that the best selling beers, Michelob, Coors etc were getting ratings of like 1 star or 2 stars out of 5. Then I saw the name Samuel Adams, honestly I never heard of them before this, but the name appealed to me and they were getting ratings of 3-4 stars out of 5 I had to find out why they were getting such better reviews, I mean after all wouldn't they be the best selling beers in the United States if they were so great? So I went to the corner gas station and saw a 6er and bought it. I brought it home and found that these weren't twist tops, and I had no bottle opener so I used the vice grip. I poured some into a mug and I couldn't believe it-a beer that wasn't boring and actually tasted good, I didn't think it was possible. It was all I could do to keep from guzzling the beer.

Later I found out the benefits of not drinking out of a frosted mug. The first time I drank a Great Lakes Edmund Fitzgerald Porter it was in a frosted mug. I thought the beer was boring as I couldn't taste anything. Later I tried it in an unfrosted mug and the flavors exploded, especially a coffee flavor that I didn't notice before.

  6. That IS ridiculous. And at $30 million per unit, it wouldn't be worth it to me. It looks like it's being held up by two toothpicks... no thanks!!

10,336 sq ft for $30 million in Manhatten? Sounds about right. Considering people pay about $100,000 for every 100 sq ft and that's not including the neighborhood or the luxury items inside.

  7. Interesting flavors. That actually sounds really good.

    :D

From what I can tell the reason why it's so expensive is because it's a self imposed limited release and they probably aged it in barrels for about a year or so.

I tell you, the beers that I like are acquired taste. I'm convinced it's something you're born with or you're not. Of course you have to try them to see, but once you do and you find that you do enjoy them you'll never go back to beers like Budweiser again, unless someone pays for it.

I'm obssessed with beer like Bubba is with shrimp (according to my mom).

  8. Nope, he's not going to drink it.

But if he ever changes his mind, I'd better get to taste it!!!

The reviews I've seen says it has no head and people have detected flavors of vanilla, butterscotch, and syrup among others. Overwhelmingly people seem to like it. Of course these people go in expecting this, I'd feel bad for the guy getting ready for a drink and expecting Budweiser (hint hint) or Coors or something along those lines.

You mentioned not like that Abita Raspberry Wheat. I don't know if I would either. I'm not fond of raspberrys and the only wheat beers I like have a banana flavor to them.

  9. Geez, for 200 bucks that better be the best damn beer I've ever had. Unless he's just going to stow it away somewhere as a collectors item.

Considering the complexity of beer and how hard it is to make it compared to wine, it's a wonder why some of the best beers on earth are not commanding high brow wine prices. I mean considering what one pays for a bottle of Westvleteren 12, it's a raging steal considering it's complexity, care, effort and time that went into it.

I've paid at least $4 for a small bottle of beer, and I didn't regret it either. It was a Lindemans Lambic (Belgian beer).

Also some beers because of their alcohol % and hop profiles can be stored for many years maturing like wine.

  10. The Kulmbacher beers I've had are EKU and Eisbock, which is rated at 9.2%.

These are the beers that I liked enough to want to enjoy them again.

  11. WOW! I saw some of your bottles in your YouTube videos, but I had no idea your collection was THAT large. That's awesome... lots of names I don't even recognize in that list.

It's even larger. Being a southerner and lazy by disposition I still haven't gotten around to finishing the shelves I want to put up to hold my bottles. What you see in the video is a tiny part. I have 68 bottles up along the wall and many more waiting to go up along with 3 cans.

Out of all them the strongest is EKU at 11%. This was the strongest beer in the world when it came out in the 1950's. However today the United States has a monopoly on the world's strongest beers. I remember reading that of the 50 strongest beers made the United States brews about 40 something of them.

  12. I admit they have good commercials but I don't care for their beer. I haven't named any because nobody has asked! Let's see Paulaner Salvator is one of my favorites. I do like some of the other Paulaner beers as well. probably my favorite beer company out of Germany. Although there are others I'd like to try that I've heard about but can't find over here. Another good one is Birra Moretti Doppio Malto. Another one I like is Cerveceria Negra Modelo. Believe it or not the same company that puts out Corona. Can't say I like Corona much, seems like the Mexican version of Bud to me. I'm also a really big fan of lambic beers. The real stuff not the fake stuff the some American companies try to make. The real stuff is fermented in Belgium by wild yeasts. Samuel Smith also makes some good beers. And no I don't mean Samuel Adams. I'm referring to the British company. Young's is another good British beer company. Okay yeah I'm sure to most of you this list isn't going to change anyone's mind about my weird beer status.

I like Paulaner Salvator and the Birra Moretti too. Samuel Smith had some good ones-Oatmeal Stout, India Pale Ale, Imperial Stout. I also bought my first Lambic here, I thought it was great. Just to let you know where I stand, I have a beer bottle collection of the beers I've had, here are the brands I have at least 1 bottle from.

  13. I'm a bit wary of Abita. The first beer I tried was not only completely flat, but it just tasted mediocre. It might've been a bad bottle, but you know that saying about first impressions. I've been tempted to try some of their other styles, but I'm also a bit scared of buying from a company that might burn me again.

  14. You were ahead of us because I could see the mobile home.

The truck guy was kind of funny. He was probably busting to go, hoping to catch the next exit, then he finds himself stuck in a huge line of traffic.

I was joking with my sister saying he probably didn't have a bottle in the truck. She said he zipped his pants as he was walking in front of his truck to the driver's side. She was watching him through the rearview mirror.

  15. Well let's see how close we were. This is what I remember

18 wheeler being pulled over so the driver could get out to pee.

Quite a few cars passing by on the right one guy for some reason was crawling in his truck with his hazzard lights blinking, agitating the people behind him making them drive around him through the grass. There was a trailer being pulled way up ahead.

  16. That's what happened to me, my sister wanted to go buy a puppy and she wanted me to go with her to help her pick the right one. We were literally on the interstate for only a minute or 2 before we had to slow down. It was 98 outside and for the next hour and 15 minutes we were either stopped or crawling. Traffic was backed up for 7 miles, I was getting agitated thinking it's probably construction and everyone has to merge and they never got around to putting the sign up. I was saying this better be serious like a dead baby on the road or something, I was planning on giving the construction crew the finger. We finally get there and 4 vehicles were wrecked, one minivan in the median was sideswipped a truck was slightly damaged and 2 SUVs were totaled. The front end of one wasn't crumpled but looked like it was ripped off. So once we got passed that she punched it and we were relieved to be out of there. Later back at home on the internet I found out a 5 year old boy died in that crash, I felt bad for while after saying there better be a dead baby on the road. Here's the article

    Wreck

  17. I'm glad you guys like it. I'm thinking about doing Iron Man tonight to show everyone that's playing it wrong how to play the riffs right.

  18. SBCmetroguy suggested that I post a link to a video of me playing Metallica-Jump In The Fire. So for you guys that are interested and like metal, especially early Metallica, then here it is.

Here are some video I just found and enjoyed

    Woman getting tasered

    Taser

The funniest part is what she says, like after she's tasered and handcuffed and the cop tells her to stay right there.

A guy creates Hiroshima in his hallway.

    Hiroshima

A comedian doing an imitation of George Bush Jr and Bill Clinton

    Bush and Clinton
