    That design tho...

Developers in Raleigh need to go back to geometry class and learn about shapes other than squares and rectangles.

It looks like a J Davis special although I didn't see them listed on the project team.

This is interestsing from Richmond right up the road.  Their economic development organization did some market research and surveys and found CEOs and other decision makers prefer Raleigh way over Richmond.

Jennifer Wakefield column: Economic momentum is strong, but lack of external perception could hurt us | Columnists | richmond.com

""On a scale of 1 to 10 on how likely they were to consider the Richmond region, executives rank our area at a 4.5. Corporate executives are 33% more likely to consider Raleigh, N.C., than Richmond and site consultants are nearly 20% more likely to consider Charlotte, N.C., than Richmond.""

Big wins like Apple and Google only give the Raleigh Durham area more notice.

Funny thing is Richmond metro was way bigger than Raleigh for years until Raleigh really started growing a few decades ago.  In fact metro Raleigh (not including Durham) is larger than metro Richmond and of course together Raleigh Durham is bigger than Nashville metro.

The Triangle will always be pretty resilient due to its strong foundations in core economic areas (innovative science and technology, biomanufacturing, etc.).  While the area could do a better job at growing its economy and improving the quality of life, it weathers the economic ebbs and flows better than most areas of the country.

IT's clear from this move that they want to introduce this area to the Disney organization, but the question is "why?"

Maybe they are interested in developing a presence here, but time will tell.

Maybe they are looking for a site to build Disney America.

    LOL.

They have Disney World and Disney Land, all they need now is Disney Burbia.

They missed the boat on the location by about 3/4 mile. Put this 3/4 mile further east, and it would have access to the commuter rail line. Offices within a short walk of commuter rail stations can often command a premium. But as proposed, it's frustratingly *almost* close enough, but not quite. A 15 minute walk at the destination end of a transit commute is not going to appeal to very many people, so few will do it.

It's amazing that they don't take these details into account.

Like Baldwin's comments about the design.  The rather blah Marriott was a huge missed opportunity.  Downtown continues to lack a signature hotel, and it is a major drawback.  Don't think this smallish parcel is going to be the answer, though...

Never underestimate Raleigh's adeptness at missing opportunities (probably on purpose) and building "non-offensive" boxes of schlock.

I hate suburban office parks.  They’re really depressing.

Besides, two of the biggest pharma companies, Pfizer and Bristol-Meyers Squibb, are based in Manhattan.

The business HQs are but not any R&D facilities. BMS has their main R&D out in New Brunswick, NJ and Pfizer has theirs out in Groton, Connecticut.

The Durham Police HQ moved to a new building, leaving the old structure built in the 50's to be re-developed. The city narrowed proposals down to two developers. Which looks better to you? I think the Durham politicians are going to fumble this one (looks like they want to go with Fallon).  But we'll see...

It's Durham, of course they will fumble it. I was there in May for business and the downtown was deader than dead.

  8. Considering my business is biotech, I think I have an idea of where the innovation centers are as I travel regularly to the Boston and San Francisco areas but never have any reason to go to NC.  As reference, let's look at BioSpace's year over year list of innovative biotech companies. NC has barely any representation. The same could be said for VC investment.

I am speaking solely in terms of biotech. You people seem to take personal shots at people on here - I would say that is more negative.

I will re-iterrate that NC (mainly the Triangle as it is the state's biotech/pharma hub) has put their eggs in the biomanufacturing basket and has not made real strides in the R&D for some time. Great if you want low- to mid-paying jobs but the area is really losing its rep as an innovation center.
