  1. It was a sad commentary when I said that Baja Fresh might be the best Mexican food in HR. The only passable place (Pancho Villa's) just closed. Luna Maya and Colley Cantina are OK -- LM is a little too upscale. The imitation SoCal burrito joint in the old Taco Bell on Independance isn't bad -- just a very limited menu. Ah, if only for a Roberto's Taco Stand, open 24 hours...... Or a Rubio's!

Good mexican food in Virginia Beach ='s Plaza Azteca in Aragona off Independence Blvd. Their are even real Mexicans!

  2. Not great, but not awfull either. The best part is the monorail. Maybe this will get the other developers to up their projects. :good:

I actually like this proposal. I think Its more balanced than lets say a 50 story Dubai like building sticking out like a sore thumb next too the present development in the area. It just makes more sense from a perspective of scale. Also, with the monorail that would provide a lot of connectivity for the convention center, making high end hotels like the Hilton more feasible of a stay for a convention goer.

  3. I don't know if this has already been posted or discussed on this forum, but Microsoft Live Local's failure to have the most recently updated satellite imagery available makes it a nice source for historic aerial shots of downtown Norfolk circa early 1990's. Check out this before and after I made with a Live Local aerial photo and a Google Maps aerial photo; it really shows with impact the planning produced in downtown Norfolk.

WOW look how much more color the new Norfolk has compared to the old! :P . But seriously, you can see more dense and alive Norfolk is with harbor park, 150 main, Nauticus and all of the other developments over the last decade.

  4. Yeah, but you gotta admit these comments are priceless!

"Why not simply pave all of Tidewater, place a giant floor drain in the center of it and cut down the very last tree ? Joanie Mitchell sang a song concerning the "paving of paradise and putting up a parking lot" over 35 years ago, and I thankfully escaped the introduction of southeatern Virginia's renovation into New York South before Meyera Opensore and the rest of the "Tidewater" scalawag yankeephiles managed to clearcut the very last vegetation remaining.

Indeed priceless. Maybe these "NIMBY's" should all move to Montana. I hear they have trees there. ;);)

  5. I thought it was an entertaining article. Straight up quote Cindi Lauper "I can see your true colors shining thru."

They basically don't want young people, blacks, or drinkers. They want old people that rush to all of the stores, buy lots of junk, load it up in the SUV, and leave.

Who cares about the taxpayers that pay money that goes into building the infrastructure so the few business owners can get rich (31st street hotel anyone)?

Hmmm Boycott the beach ! Get all of the locals to go to downtown Norfolk instead!

I wish I knew more about these meetings. If I did, I'd go and record them and post mp3 files of them online.

NO, dont get the locals to go to downtown norfolk. Get the locals to go to town center!

  6. well. August 10th i am flying out to norfolk/Va beach. I plan on taking a whole bunch of pics so i will post them up hehe. i will be taking pics of the good and the bad, to give a full perspective on hampton roads.

  7. I love  the Hague and I don't think it needs to be modern either. When is the last time any of you guys have been inside. Sometimes you need some buildings that looked aged but have aged well. So do like some of the photos mikefaceless? I told you guys you have created a photo monster now.

haha nice fish! and its good to see a more REALISTIC type view of where ill probably be living since i am pretty broke at the moment and my move might be sudden and with low amounts of funds. That norfolk neighborhood looks pretty old. What neighborhood is that?

  9. actually to be more specific i would like to see pics of areas that still need to be "fixed" particularly in the norfolk area. i feel that requires a separate thread. i'm looking for the run down, the old, the grimey. i do plan on moving back to hampton roads one day but hopefully i wont be living in such a place. I would like to see the pictures to gain a full perspective of BOTH sides of hampton roads. I hope this makes sense. Thank you!

  10. Trader, harbor heights, the Hilton, and Granby will all fill in the right side of this picture quite nicely. I can't wait!  :)

edit: the new brambleton tower will help fill in the right side as well.

Hello, i am brand new to these boards but i have been looking a the pics of the city and have been amazed. i was raised in the pembroke area of virginia beach. its amazing to see how much has been developed! i wonder if there is someone out there who could photoshop all the new towers going up into this photo to give a different persepective on what the skyline will look like.
