RDU has Southwest airlines which attracts people from ALL over the area (there isn't another SWA for about 200 miles). Most of those rinky dink airports (excluding Myrtle) have USAir and Delta. If you want to fly another airline, you drive to RDU.

Oh so you want to establish a football team for White people in Charlotte using tax money because the one at JCSU is predominately Black? That is the only thing that I get from that statement.
Are you freaking kidding me?!?! That is NOT at all what he is saying. He is saying a college of 1300 students is never going to have a big time football program, (ie Div I-AA or Div I).

I disagree with you on almost all of your points::
Most people that live in this city will never go to UNCC.
Most people get outta town when they go to college. That is the whole college experience. What DOES happen though is that graduates stay in the area they went to school after graduation. I have met more UNCC graduates here than any other school by far.
If you don't go to a school then there is no reason to believe there is going to be "this spirit" that you refer too.
Oh you are SOOOOOOO wrong on that one. You think the ten of thousands of Duke and UNC hat and shirts you see around here all went to those colleges? You think the millions of people who chear for Notre Dame every weekend went to that school? You think the 110,000+ fans at a Univeristy of Michigan game all went to UMICH? No, no, and no.
Why don't we let the people who want it show their support by pulling out their checkbooks and credit cards to actually pay for it.
That is what they are trying to do but until they have a commitment for a team, money isn't going to be flowing in from anywhere. You think the average alumni that thinks UNCC will never get a football team is going to write them a big check? Money doesn't come in until you build a football program. How do you think USC has a brand new basketball arenas, plans for a new baseball field, etc? Because people give to the gamecock club to get football tickets.
Had I gone to a school with a football team I certainly would not be deriving my happiness from waving around a flag.
Maybe you should have gone to a "football school" then before you make that comment. For millions of people on Saturdays that IS where they derive thier happiness...Like it or not. Try driving down I-77 or I-85 on a saturday morning and count the USC and Clemson flags with out-of-state tags.
If your best days are your college days, then life really did treat you unfairly. For me there are simply too many other things that are much more important to my life.
Maybe life treated YOU unfairly. If you didn't have the "time of your life" in college, maybe YOU missed something. Was college the best years of my life, heck no. Was college the most fun years of my life, hell yes.

BTW, any word on a buyer for the property across from the LaPetite on Park and Fairview???
That land seems to be perfect for some more office and/or retail. I think someone should bulldoze the LaPetite while they are at it. It is a totally under-utilized piece of land on such a valuable corner in the SP area.

That site might be under-utilized, but...it borders next to the poop plant. If you haven't driven by on a hot august afternoon...please do. Ugh. Honestly I don't know how people live in those townhomes across the street in the middle of summer. Whatever might take over the day care almost certainly wouldn't be some grand plan. IMHO that is...

That leads me to wonder aloud: Why are there no dessert places in Charlotte? Winston-Salem has a great little place called The Dessertery and Columbia has a place down in Congaree Vista right on Gervais (can't remember the name). All they do is dessert, coffee and wine. Perfect. Come on Charlotte, step up to the culinary plate. LET US EAT CAKE!

Actually there is uptown...Sugar Shack on Trade St on the square. It is an evening cake, pie, ice cream and coffee place. Have visited twice now and deserts are wonderful and not really expensive. There is minimal service (you order at the counter and they will bring out to you). Check it out...

One other FACT that I did not point out is that the Southpark area has more office space than all of downtown Raleigh. It is a bit more than just a couple of buildings and would definately be more than one block of Buckhead. And one other important fact is that the vacancy in Buckhead is astounding. They typically run a 18-20% rate, compared to a mere 7-8% vacancy of Southpark. Reason being. You guessed it again, SPRAWL. Business continue to push the boundries of Atlanta further out. I bet in twenty years Atlanta will basically ba all of North GA.

I don't see any comparison to Buckhead. If you HAD to compare Buckhead to somewhere in Charlotte it would be Southpark...but no one outside of CLT will ever say they show any similiarities other than they share a few names at the mall.
Anyways I am not bashing SouthPark...I have lived and worked in SP for 7+ years and love the area. But I don't think it resembles Buckhead in any way, shape, or form.

I agree....I think it is Buckhead esque', but not Buckhead. I still can see towers growing out of the ground within the next 3-6 years.

Are you crazy? Buckhead esque'? Buckhead is a wee bit more than a few office buildings and shopping mall. There are more bars/restuarants in 1 block in Buckhead compared to all of SouthPark (There are 100 bars and restaurants within 2 1/2 blocks).
Buckheads shopping is off the charts. SouthPark is getting better but we're not close to Buckhead esque'. Lenox mall is what SP strives to be and Phipps plaza is like nothing we have here.
Hotels? Come on. Buckhead has the Ritz, Swiss
