Yeah but that's impossible. That building was torn down to make way for Granby Tower and no longer exists. Maybe they got the address wrong.
Its gotta be, somones address's are off...

I think that Goggle may be closer than you think.
On the city website you can look at maps of the city and if you get close enough you can see satelite images.
I think that 120 W. York may be located between the Granby Tower site and the 10 floor office building at the corner of Boush and W. York.
No, Lil-bear, that picture is off. Zedd's is North of Bramblton on Granby. Google is way off on that one.

Extension to the navy base would be HUGE! I know so many people who hate driving onto the base because of traffic and so many of those same people get stuck going down hampton blvd.
Yeah that would be big...It goes right along with that article the other day in the pilot about how bad hampton blvd has gotten. This would help out alot!

holy crap!!! I was just messing around on local.live.com. Now we all know that they have the bird's eye for Hampton Roads which is cool, but if you go to downtown Norfolk and click on Aerial, it will be a serious blast from the past. Almost a shock to the system of what Norfolk use to look like.
I looked around, I dont understand though....

We're not among the worst "bubble" markets,
Nope, and from that article, not even close. At the bottom of that list were the "average" markets. Were not even close.

Unfortunately, it's a big part of my life. Wages haven't moved much since 02 or so (just got a new job at a pretty hardcore place)... but with the cost of living increases, it's killer. I read up on it after asking myself "What justifies these sudden huge increases in prices? I can't think of anything that is changing." I didn't know at the time it was lax lending standards. After reading quite a bit about it, it is pretty obvious how bad it is for our country, and it amazes me that the main stream media and others haven't called it out. Of course, NOW the federal government is looking to take action, but it's a bit too late.
I do pay a bit of attention to the goings on of Hampton Roads, and know a bit of it's history, having lived here for 30 years (all my life).
Yeah, but this morning in the pilot there was an article about the top 100 markets that "experts" were ranking that were going to fall victim to the "housing bubble" and nowhere in hampton roads was on the list....

I just hope they run it up Hampton Blvd to the naval station. If they want riders, that is gonna be huge.
If they run it to the ocean front to DT and up to the naval station. It will be a huge success! Then that will spur conncetions all around the cities. Maybe down little creek and back down Granby st. maybe Down independance rd... there are so many possibilities!

I've noticed recently on Hampton Blvd(Ghent area) they have a strip of cables that, I guess, is tracking the number of vehicles daily.
Could be an indicator of wanting to extend up hampton blvd....
Any info on them?
Actually, I have seen today that they are on Bramblton, Waterside drive, and Boush st.
Anyone seen anymore?
I think theres a connection. These are all strategicly placed.

Yeah! WOOOHOOOOO!!!
I was there last night. Great game, we really need to take it to Hofstra now though. They already beat us twice this year.
If anyone cares the game is gonna be on tommorw night at 7:00 or 9:00 P.M. on espn2.
Check it out!

I think that we could support a baseball team before a football team.
How so?
In football you only have 8 home games. With the rabid football fans everywhere I dont think it would be hard to sell out every sunday. We would have people traveling in from everywhere in VA, some of MD an Lots of NE NC.
Baseball is a completly diffrent story. Night games will be hard to fill up night in and night out, and the day games would have horrific attendance. A club would be here for probably 10 years max, then looking again to re-locate.
Football would get attendance and support no matter how bad they are. People just love tailgating and going to football games.

That was a joke, right?
I agree! That was a horrible idea!

More like every minute. Not to get too far this subject, but take a look at this pic.
OMG That is Friggin INSANE!!!!!

OMG is right!!!!!!!!!!
I opend the paper today and just about freaked out! This is gonna be an awesome development for "South Ghent" or, what I like to call it, "Mid-town or the "West-Side".
No kidding about the secretive Norfolk Gov. They are better than the CIA. Those dudes are good.

Are you referring to this building?
photo courtesy of the Norfolk pics thread.
Hopefully this will be restored.
Yup thats it, I think it would be a sweet resturant or club.
Or my house.

Yes the Monticello Hotel was a beautiful building. During the 70's it became a seedy hotel and at the time Norfolk was demolition crazy and no one could see the future possiblities of the building. I remember feeling that Norfolk was destroying something grand to make way for an ugly federal building.
Well, you were exactly right. Damn feds.

OT - Does anybody know what their doing with that building a few doors down form the Union Mission building. The one that I'm talking about looks really, really old and has 2 large colums(sp?) on the front and its windows are borded up. Its actually called the Byrd & Baldwin Bros. Building.
Does anyone know what I'm talking about? Or know what going on with it?

That's ashame. It would've been nice to preserve that building.
I know, , Imagine the posibilities of remodeling that into some condos.... That place was very nice looking! Classy!
-
I don't see it at Pilot On-line, but I read over the weekend that the Madison Hotel on Granby is going to be converted to a condo. There was some mention of a restaurant and perhaps some small amount of retail also, if I am remembering correctly.
I 2nd that. It was either Saturday or Sunday.

Hey, everyone, Happy New Year! May 2006 be the year of tower power.
I'm surprised that, throughout all this talk, I haven't read anything more about the city using part of the Downtown Plaza land for the new City Hall/Circuit Court/School Admin bldg complex. I thought at one time (unless I dreamed the whole thing) that due to the need for new pretty much everything, that this would be a good site, freeing up the land currently occupied by the current complex for office towers, hotels, and residences. The land closer to the river and the CDB seems a bit more prime. Of course, I suppose they'd have to move the jail, too.... Have I missed the boat on this one?
I think it's a great idea. It would be kinda tricky to move the jail though .

I'm sorry to say this but the asst. city manager was quoted pondering the possibility of a big box retailer in that location. Mr. Burfoot is the one who wants another Broad Creek. The reason to do the study is so they don't make a mistake with this prime piece of land. I must say, i'm nervous. For $435,000 this guy better be good. I'm hoping he can work the kind of magic that Ray Gindroz seems to be able to do everytime he comes up with these comprehensive plans.
I'm not nervous at all, the article clearly states that
"Assistant City Manager Stanley A. Stein, who is heading the study for the city, said he has no preconceived notions. He said the study could take as long as a year.

I wouldnt mind seeing a Best Buy or Target getting built somehow near Downtown. The closest Wal-Mart is in Chesapeake and Best Buy is all the way down @ Independence. After GW is built, I can just cross the street to do my grocery shopping, but if I need some Wal-Mart-type stuff, I've gotta get in the car and roll for a while.
BTW - does anyone know when the Union Mission is supposed to be making their move?
like I have said before, if they do get one of those "big box" type of stores make sure that its on the bottom of a tower. They can make it happen and with the people living DT in the near future, they would be foolish not to(the city and the store).
