Rode the entire Casselberry trail network today. It's all open and clear. I was worried that areas along Cassel Creek (I think that is what it is called) and near the Casselberry golf course might have washed out after Ian...but apparently there was no lasting damage. Little Econ Greenway still has areas closed currently. Also..(on the Urban Trail) the North Quarter crosswalk signals at Weber and Magnolia were " uncovered" and functioning the last few times I have biked through there. It is still an awkward place to cross the street. Be on your guard (he Gandalf'd). I've also noticed quite a few folks using the new Anderson St section of the UT as well... so that is good to see. No worries. Cheers.

About lost my ass running on the North Quarter section of the OUT tonight.
They need to put some stop signs and green crossings out of the apartment complexes there.
Was trying to run and somebody pulled fastly across the trail to try to turn in front of me, looking only left for the one-way traffic on orange, and not maybe even knowing that was a trail.
I tried to hoof behind them but rolled on a curb and ate it bad.
Right in front of the restaurant of poeple.
Like it was my fault.
That wasn't my fault.
Ouch.
I hear you. Biking that stretch is much easier heading south (as you said drivers are rubbernecking north). Not sure what happened to the "green crosswalk" initiative. So many bike crosswalks are still faded or worn out. I thought that all of them (considered part of the trail networks) would have gotten the green treatment by now. I have constant issues with cars stopped in the middle of the crosswalks behind Fashion Square. That being said...just because a crosswalk is "green" doesn't guarantee it is safe. I almost got nailed at Fairgreen Street today (after hitting the crosswalk signal and waiting for the right of way). Orlando drivers are the worst. Hope you are okay. Cheers.

Haven't logged in for a bit. So used to seeing spenser1058's icon/avatar indicating "most recent response" to one topic (or another) and noticed his absence. Quite depressing to read this. Hoping for the best. No worries. Hug your loved ones. Cheers. JRC.

Anybody know what is going on behind Fashion Square (along Maguire and McCullough)? It was previously an empty parking lot next to the Aurora On The Trail apartments. All the remaining trees have been removed and bulldozers are ripping up the old parking pavement. The whole area is fenced off. Just wondering. Cheers.

The Lake Baldwin "loop" trail is finally fully open again. For those who don't know...a section of trail (just west of the "two docks area") washed out and collapsed due to Hurricane Ian. Recently you'd have to detour through downtown BP and pick up the trail again on Lakemont Ave (or vice versa). Thousands of large rocks (or are they small boulders?) have been piled up along the southwest shore of Lake Baldwin to create a breakwater and prevent further storm-related erosion. The "washed out" area of trail has finally been replaced. One (of the two docks) is open again. The other is almost ready. I had attempted to bike around the lake a few days after Ian and several sections of the trail were submerged in several feet of water and BOTH docks were below the water line. Absolutely surreal. Hopefully that won't happen again (also...the flooding around Lake Davis and Delaney/Lancaster Parks was unbelievable...I only mention it because I frequent those neighborhoods on my runs and rides).
Little Econ Greenway is still closed (at least parts of it are). I tried to bike it on Sunday (from Cady Way) and got stopped by barricades just east of Goldenrod Road. Not sure how bad it is.
The Urban Trail connector from Summerlin to Lake Underhill is fully rideable now. Cross street intersections are a little bumpy (it's a curb thing) but it is very nice overall. The trail gets a little narrow (in spots) but is looking good for the most part. The city planted a lot of new trees (the usual Oaks and Myrtles) along the Greenwood Wetlands/Cemetary area and even some along the neighborhoods between Hampton and Underhill. Special attention was paid to the Anderson/Crystal Lake intersection with added crosswalk signals to head north or east. As the trail hits Lake Underhill there is a VERY dodgy crosswalk at the curve transition (from Anderson to Underhill Road). I know how sketchy that spot can be but I worry about new trail users. I do not see any indication of new crosswalk signals there. It is a very awkward (and partially blind) crosswalk. I will report back later if there are updates. ALSO..the last few days the city has plopped sod down to fill in vacant areas along the trail. Good stuff. Also...why did I think the trail would stretch west to Delaney Avenue? It doesn't..but no worries. Just my dodgy memory, I reckon. No worries.
Also...A Happy New Year to all you good local peeps out there . Cheers. JRC.

Hmmm. If that's the case then perhaps those two new trail sculptures are gonna look something like this:

Bungalower reported that there will be a new "pocket park" with sculpture installations as part of the Downtown Connector Loop trail that is being completed currently. The park will be at the corner of Primrose and Anderson and is soliciting proposals for 2 sculptures.
That's cool. That little parcel of land always had me wondering who owned it (and what was going to become of it). Nice . Cheers.

I'd seen a bit here and there. Today was the first time I saw the new sign. Cheers.

Work is starting on converting the old popcorn joint (on Primrose) to Smoke & Donuts. New sign is up and work is ongoing on the building. Didn't have my phone on me when I went by there today for photos (might swing by tomorrow). Just an update for anybody interested. Cheers.

The iconic West Orange Trail bridge over the Florida Turnpike is closing. It will be replaced following widening of the roadway which is expected to take about a year.
Meanwhile, WOT traffic will be detoured on to CR 438, which is currently closed to vehicular traffic:

Oh man...that sucks. Been over that bridge many times en route to Killarney Station (and beyond to the South Lake Trail). Cheers.

The text describes the Orlando Drive-In on OBT (at Gore), but the pic is of the Kuhl Ave one
Maybe they couldn't find a flyer for the old OBT location? I'm trying to imagine a Drive-In theater on Kuhl (in the vicinity of Kaley). Hmmm. Days Gone Bye, I reckon. No worries. Thanks for the post. Cheers.

Many apologies if this has been posted here before. I bike past the Orlando Executive Airport multiple times a week. I know its past history. My grandpa lived here in the 30's and was sent off to war in the 40's. He did his tour in Europe (was wounded and flown home). I reckon he spent time on this "Orlando Army Air Base" (whether coming to or going from the war). Fascinating stuff. Again....apologies if this is redundant....but I find this quite interesting (and right around the corner from my neighborhood). Festival Park indeed. No worries. Cheers.

I got to meet Robert Reed (Brady dad) at PH one night and he had the mustache. I was most disappointed as I’ve never been a fan of facial hair.
One does wonder, however.....
No worries...and thanks for the memories, Mr. Reed. Porkchops and applesauce. Cheers.

A few random photos from the North Quarter trail (these are about a month or so old...maybe older...I digress):
Haven't ridden through there since early/mid June. I will bike through there again this Sunday (hopefully) and post any updates. No worries. Cheers.

Not trying to clutter up the site. Just thought some folks might be interested (who would only be concerned with bike trail news). No worries. Cheers.

spenser1058 was the sole reason why I waded into this forum. I'd browsed anonymously for a short spell and (as a long time resident) found most of his posts humorous and (more importantly) incredibly knowledgeable regarding the history of this city. I felt immediately welcomed (after joining) by several of his replies. I know I don't post here a lot but I do still browse here fairly often. He will be sorely missed. Happy travels to you spenser1058. Cheers.
