ha...i welcome the renewed traffic noise and street car noise...i cant even begin to tell you the amount of idio...i mean people that dont understand simple construction signs that say 'bridge out' and 'road closed'. If i had a nickel for every time someone turned around in my drive way, i would be a millionaire.

I wouldn't say sub par, maybe just a smaller company. They are top notch at historic preservation though.
Well then, thats even better news...for some reason I had developed the impression that they were a less than desirable company to be completing this project.
Thanks for setting that straight

both because incompetence
very true, but i recall you mentioned that Cleveland Construction being a sub par company...regardless, i want this to happen with out any glitches or issues. Its just too important for the city of Charlotte, in my opinion.

Oh, so now it's "when it opens" as opposed to it having a tower crane and seven floors of an elevator core.
to his point, Charlotte has two unfinished buildings that sit dormant...but unless there is a significant issue with the theater itself, pretty sure this one is happening...

Hot from the City of Charlotte!! Is it possible this bridge gets done by the end of August?
Project Update
- The city has received the sixth and final streetcar vehicle from Siemens. The streetcar vehicles are currently being tested on the Blue Line during non-revenue hours.
- The roadway realignment of Frazier Avenue is complete. The traffic signal at Frazier Avenue has not yet been installed; however, the intersection is now open to the public.
- More than 80% of the streetcar track has been installed along the entire alignment. Areas still requiring track work include the Hawthorne Lane Bridge area and the end-of-line segments at French Street and Sunnyside Avenue.
- The Hawthorne Lane Bridge girders are in their final location, which allows the contractor to start forming the deck and placing concrete over the next few months.

Yes, this is correct. The station is at Sunnyside (about a block from the Beaver).
To my knowledge the stop is supposed to straddle the intersection at Sunnyside. Thought it was going to be blocking my driveway, but it'll be plenty out of the way.

did either wreck leave skid marks?

Has there been any one out working on the bridge this week? I went to Independence Park almost every day of the last 2 weeks and they were working constantly on Hawthorne on what appeared to be cabling and other work.
Yeah they were using the crane this morning when i was letting the dog out...there were about 3 or 4 people out there before i snapped that pic, but that pic was taken after workers had left. glad this is still considered essential business...i miss my bridge.

Parkdale Mills of Gaston County will make up to 10 Million medical masks a week starting now.

Great News! but people need to be reminded that these are for medical professionals...normal people, unless sick do not need masks!!! As much anxiety as this event has caused me, I get the desire to want to buy masks and other items that may seem to 'keep you healthy', but please use your common sense.

Yes, you should lose your job when you make major mistakes. Both on the public side and private side.
If thats the case, me thinks a July/August timeline is a bit steep to deliver on...I bet this crap gets delayed further to 2021.
and MB, snarky comments are always welcome!

This is infuriating. That is a year and a half behind schedule. Where are our government officials? I understand that the contractor is largely to blame, but how they can not provide any oversight? This level of incompetence is unbelievable.
I have been noticing that it has been extremely quite on the bridge the past few weeks...i wonder what they %^&*ed up this time...on a positive note, at least our street stay quite for a few more months.

This Dominion project is completely different , and has nothing to do with the city's recent RFI on the city-owned parcels. Dominion is buying their land from the NCAE, which is across the street from the city property. I agree that something taller by Dominion would be nice, they have a great track record in DT Raleigh. (PNC Tower, FNB Tower, Charter Square etc.).
14 hours ago, Raleigh Walker said:Gotcha, I can see why you think that now. I disagree with your conclusion, though. Like SlackJack said, Salisbury Square is a different property than the RCC hotel/HQ combo.
Ah I see...thanks for the clarification Slack/RW...is this the property near Lincoln Theater then?? Its been quite a while since ive been in downtown Raleigh despite growing up there...
Oh and that means I retract my previous comment about it being a missed opportunity...but heres to ALWAYS hoping for more!

What makes you think they will go for the Grand Bohemian?
Article mentioned a 6 story hotel. There was a proposal by the Kessler group a week or two back for a Grand Bohemian hotel...i was merely putting two and two together...it is my own speculation...

This probably needs its own thread but major development announced today on the NCAE site by Dominion Realty Partners.
from a subscriber article from the TBJ
"" Dominion Realty Partners and the North Carolina Association of Educators announced they’ve reached a deal for DRP to the buy 4.9 acres of NCAE-owned land for the development of Salisbury Square, a multi-tower project at the corner of W. South and S. Salisbury streets. The property is located right across from the Duke Energy Center for the Performing Arts. Dominion expects the project to cost more than $300 million over two phases. Plans for the project call for four new structures, including two 20-story towers, a hotel and a parking structure. Plans will be submitted to city officials for approval in the coming months. Plans for Salisbury Square call for a 20-story mixed-use tower, a 20-story multifamily tower, a 6-story, 150-room hotel and 4-story building for workforce housing with attached parking deck. The mixed-use tower will feature 242 upscale apartments on top of 175,000 square feet of commercial office and retail space. The residential tower will feature 270 luxury apartments complete with a rooftop pool. Finally, plans also include 63 workforce housing units wrapping a shared parking structure. These units will feature below-market rates and will be reserved for lower-income tenants, DRP says""
this is fantastic project for downtown!
While this is a great project, talk about another swing an miss for a truly iconic tower downtown...two 20 story towers is par for the course for Raleigh with the past few building announcements...it also appears they will get their Grand Bohemian as well. I dont want to come across as complaining, but here's to wanting more...
